Welcome to guided breathing exercises from Oxygen Advantage®.

In this new series, breathing expert and OA founder Patrick McKeown leads you through a selection of guided breathing exercises. Oxygen Advantage® breathing exercises are specifically designed for purpose, whether you need to improve your health and wellbeing or boost athletic performance and recovery.

Focusing first on sleep, Patrick will guide you through a simple 30 second light breathing exercise which is great for relaxing you before sleep by helping you access the parasympathetic nervous system and engaging the body’s ‘rest and digest’ response.

This is a simple 30 second exercise for beginners. Next week, we will feature a slightly more advanced version of the breathe light exercise.

If you are pregnant, have a serious medical condition or suffer from anxiety or panic disorder, consult with your physician before undertaking any exercises involving ‘air hunger’ or breath holds.

If you liked this exercise, then why not try the Oxygen Advantage® App it came from? Now available for download, the app is free of charge and features no micro-transactions.

Amazing, I tried this last night at 3am. Following you for some years, tapped my mouth long ago which got me nose breathing. So grateful. But a terrible insomniac, often the sleeping pills don’t work, I wonder what is wrong with my brain. Saw this video last night, awake at 3am I remembered and tried the slow breathing air hunger, I slept till 9am. Wonderful work you are doing for mankind.

Hi Patrick. First of all you have helped me so much over the years, more than I can ever express over worlds, one day I hope to try! But I am really struggling at the moment. One side of my nose is permanent blocked, only the left side and no matter what I can’t unblock it. Some days it is worse than others, some days it is tolerable and others it is hell (and this fluctuation leads me to believe it is not some sort of septal defect, and with it only been one side seems to not indicate allergies) And when it is bad my nostrils will not switch, like for 20h of the day it will be through that one nostril which is infuriating. I just want it to be okay as I can manage that, but when it is fully blocked it is awful. Your nose unblocking exercise helps but only for maybe a minute. I appreciate any help you might be able to offer. Thanks

Will slowing down the breathing like this help MR PP get more blood flow and oxygen?

Question, should I take deep (slow and soft breathing) breaths, or shorts, always slow and soft, but deep or short breaths in and out? And should be abdominal (belly) breathing? Thanks so much!

I have a questio!!
I have been incorporating this type of breathing during the day and my mouth is always wet, my hand they seem hot but when i touched them they are cold.... but i think is good, wierd but i think i am doing the things righ.
But, while eating, should we keep that pace?? Or should we just take some( 2 or 3) good big inhales and prelonged exhales, to relax the body, and just eat ?!
I would apreciate to know your experiences !!
Thank you !!
