Alpha has sucked with being assertive and standing up for himself most of his life. It started when he was young and continued into his 30s. He just didn't want to rock the boat. However, in a quest to be happy, he needed to be assertive and stand up for himself. If you can't defend yourself, people can walk all over you.
In this video men's style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of IAmAlphaM, AaronMarino, and Pete & Pedro is sharing what he learned in therapy. Check these out as you will have to stand up for yourself your whole life -- or else people will try to take advantage of you or get you to do things you don't want to do.
Ten {Assertiveness} Takeaways Alpha Learned
1. Trust your instincts -- if it doesn't feel right, follow that little voice
2. Don't get angry or flustered when standing up for yourself which gives away your control & power. Don't let it show.
3. Try to look at the other person's perspective
4. Don't be afraid to be selfish -- in this case selfish is not 'bad'. Selfish in this situation is taking care of yourself.
5. Don't be afraid 'no' -- saying 'no' is hard to do but incredibly critical to master. If it's not something you're comfortable doing, disagree with, or not able to do in the long run, just say 'no'.
6. Be polite yet firm -- there's no reason to be a jerk when saying 'no'
7. Don't feel the need to over-explain yourself -- you're just digging a hole where you may eventually find a 'yes'
8. Know when to walk away
9. It's okay if people don't like you -- this was one of the hardest things for Alpha to grasp & comprehend. He had to come to conclusion that some people may not like him.
10. Remember -- you are awesome and deserve the best. You are beautiful, amazing, and the perfect you. You deserve nothing but the best. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't. Don't let anyone push you around. You have to stand up for yourself and be assertive -- but be a gentleman!
