Alpha has sucked with being assertive and standing up for himself most of his life. It started when he was young and continued into his 30s. He just didn't want to rock the boat. However, in a quest to be happy, he needed to be assertive and stand up for himself. If you can't defend yourself, people can walk all over you.
In this video men's style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of IAmAlphaM, AaronMarino, and Pete & Pedro is sharing what he learned in therapy. Check these out as you will have to stand up for yourself your whole life -- or else people will try to take advantage of you or get you to do things you don't want to do.

Ten {Assertiveness} Takeaways Alpha Learned
1. Trust your instincts -- if it doesn't feel right, follow that little voice

2. Don't get angry or flustered when standing up for yourself which gives away your control & power. Don't let it show.

3. Try to look at the other person's perspective

4. Don't be afraid to be selfish -- in this case selfish is not 'bad'. Selfish in this situation is taking care of yourself.

5. Don't be afraid 'no' -- saying 'no' is hard to do but incredibly critical to master. If it's not something you're comfortable doing, disagree with, or not able to do in the long run, just say 'no'.

6. Be polite yet firm -- there's no reason to be a jerk when saying 'no'

7. Don't feel the need to over-explain yourself -- you're just digging a hole where you may eventually find a 'yes'

8. Know when to walk away

9. It's okay if people don't like you -- this was one of the hardest things for Alpha to grasp & comprehend. He had to come to conclusion that some people may not like him.

10. Remember -- you are awesome and deserve the best. You are beautiful, amazing, and the perfect you. You deserve nothing but the best. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't. Don't let anyone push you around. You have to stand up for yourself and be assertive -- but be a gentleman!

I remember being so fragile, sensitive and couldn't stand up for myself. One day some people just pushed me too much and I snapped. It was an amazing feeling.

Make your intentions clear and don’t beat around the bush. Avoid using open ended questions.

I grew up trying to please everyone around me. It worked out well until I got older and realized how much I've sacrificed my own wants and needs for years. I think being a people pleaser melted away my best qualities and it's hard to start back up again. Thanks for the vid, Alpha.

Number 11) Stop apologizing for nothing! I'll apologize for being wrong but I won't apologize for being me.
... and you can take that to the bank!

Your story is similar to mine. In fact, not being assertive and speaking up for myself cost me dearly in my career and marriage. That garbage I was taught by parents and society was just that -- garbage! I am very fortunate to have finally learned how to be assertive and not a pushover.

My dad has for the longest time I can remember, talked down to me. And making it into an acceptable thing to be rude to me (for comedic purposes, to make a point, or to show that he’s right). I always feel that I’m gonna stand there and cry, if I’m gonna stand up for myself in the conflict. It feels like it hurts so much, and it hurts to even think about standing up for myself. I’m showing you guys here that I’m not a strong man right now. But in my mind I have this constant feeling nagging at me that I could stand up for myself somehow. I think it’s possible for all of us.

This video should’ve been called “how to say no like a gentleman” 😂

Learning to say no - without extensively explaining yourself; very true that those two go together. It's easy to get lost in the guilt game when one is not used to saying no, feeling so guilty that we kind of want to take back the no by overexplaining ourselves...

Amen! In my younger days I was a total people pleaser. The power of ‘No’ is amazing. Bless this man!!
