I was a runner for 30 years, and I have arthritis in both my knees, bone on bone, I’m 62, and now I walk 45 to 60 minutes 5 to 6 days a week, my knees feel so much better as well as my body in general, no more pounding on my body.

Having dogs has been such a blessing for not only a handful of other things but walking them everyday reaching 10k steps a day is effortless. Its a win win for both me and my dogs it keeps them happy and keeps me stronger .

Walking has really worked for me. I've gone from 263 lbs. to 195 lbs. over the past three years (I am 6' 1"). I've increased my strength during this time as well. I can relate to what is being said; for me walking works because it is SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely).

I'm astounded that people ask if walking is cardiovascular exercise. Seriously? People have been misled. A brisk 60-90 minute walk with hills and stairs included is fantastic cardiovascular exercise. Every runner I know has experienced chronic injuries to hips, knees, ankles, shins (me included). It's so hard on the body, yet so many people think they have to do it. I enjoy the topics you guys cover in the podcast. Thx and best regards

I ran from early 30's to age 59 and I was burned out and sore. Ran 5k, 10k and 1/2 marathons and then it wasn't fun any more. I walked and eventually walking 3-5 miles. I found a gym and dumb bells and what a game changer! I also swim 2-3x a week and I'm loving it all at age 65.

Walking is great for fat loss. When you decide you want to lose weight and go on a deficit, walking makes that deficit easier. 5km/day on a treadmill walking on 5km/h with a low to medium incline will burn enough calories to squeeze in one more meal and feel full. This alone is enough to make fat loss sustainable. You are not hungry anymore because walking doesn't make you hungry and you still get to eat a lot and keep your deficit. I lost 40kg just by walking and eating healthy every day for 1 year and I feel great. Johnny Walker was right...

I've been doing interval incline walking and I've dropped pounds faster than when I was running. Also previously after my runs, I was ravenously hungry like a wild bear....after the walks, I was only thirsty.

I go for a short 5-10 min walk down the block every hour or so when I'm working at my desk. Doing this has been a game changer for my health, body comp and happiness. If you're sedentary all day you just feel like shit, and a long bout of exercise at the end of the day doesn't help much.

Cardio is anything that raises your heart rate and respiratory rate. As long as the cardiopulmonary system is being improved its cardio. So each individual persons fitness level determines what is cardio. Over weight and new to exercise walking is cardio.

In what world is walking NOT considered cardio? If you walk fast enough, especially on hilly terrain, it will get your heart rate up just like running, stepping or classes. It absolutely is cardio.

I agree. I use to walk 6 days a week. I walked about 10 to 15 miles a week. I felt great and I looked healthy tone. I loss like 60lbs. It was definitely fat weight. I worked out 3 to 5 days a week. Anywhere from 30mins to 2 hours but it was light work outs. I'm working to get back to that lifestyle. Best feeling ever. Good luck to anyone who is wantin, lookingforward, and currently on that walking goals to making life better.
