I found for me it helped practicing with one arm at a time first, 60 seconds speed jabs and hooks with each arm individual then 60 seconds speedy combinations w both.

I'm noticing in this video, the power video, and just in my own experience the past couple weeks, the key word is think. Boxing really is a thinking man's sport and takes a lot of mental discipline.

Then if you really want to get technical it's all in the fast twitch muscle fibers, and from the coiling motion of your waist and feet. If you can throw your hand out at 30mph and you move your body at 5mph and you add the rotation of your waist to it, the speed increases dramatically. Just like the tips on a propeller move faster than the propeller shaft itself, a small increase in rotation speed from the center translates into a larger faster movement at the extremities. That's why in golf, a driver is long and heavy at the end, and a putter is short and light at the end.

What about using those rubber bands for doing negatives? Where instead of using them as resistance while punching, you use them the opposite way. The theory is to over ride the arms tendency to slow the punch down as it reaches the limit of extension. .

Interested in your opinion on this Tony. I just hit heavy bags and floor-ceiling ball for fitness. (Played ice-hockey for years, so occassionally needed to throw a few in the heat of the game) I also played a bit of drums, so I developed a habit of using drum patterns (R-L-RR L-R-LL) so I wasn’t punching randomly. I’m now trying to unlearn that and follow numbers for punches. (I still don’t know the correct number for every punch though)So I set myself a combination for every round and swap stance and reverse it each time. Anyway, long story short, I found the drumming approach really good for developing my speed, as I can up the tempo in my head) but was also taught (by a Canadian amateur boxer) that my power would come when my feet were doing the right thing as well. Love your videos mate.

You have great tips man and I like your energy and attitude! Just commented on an older video about boxing speed until I noticed this recent one. I was taught to relax after delivering the punch. It improved my speed greatly as well as my endurance. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on how you dose your muscle flexing/relaxation during the different stages of motion of a punch.
