Asheville is not a TOWN it is a CITY. Towns in the surrounding areas were washed away.

My dad lives in Ashville. He moved up there from Birmingham several years ago. I visit him often from AL and it was such a beautiful place to visit. If I had the money I would have loved to live there, but with me finally paying off my little home here it is hard to think about leaving it with so many people struggling with just their rent. I am blessed. I finally got in touch with him and luckily they had no damage, but they are cut off from everything.

I live outside of Gatlinburg, TN in the Smoky Mountain.. We were between bands. My area low lands got not so bad flooding. I have people in the
Asheville area. I am told that Asheville west to the Tennessee border is basically destroyed. Roads not only flooded but washed away. Bridges
destroyed. An East bound section of I 40 collapsed into the river. Asheville is without electric power and cell service. Slowly being restored with
temp cell towers and Power Crews from as far north as Canada. All non responder traffic inbound/outbound is restricted. There are towns under
water. This is a Generational Disaster unknown to the Smokys. No one expected Helene to take a track North West out of South Georgia and drop
part of the Gulf Of Mexico inland. Not to mention the Wind Bands. People are suffering. Maybe the government could spare 2 or 3 billion from
propping up Ukraine. What Was I Thinking?? The normal US Citizen is the last thing on the US Gov's collective

One of my grandparents houses has a tree in the living room, another one is under water, and thankfully, the one they decided to stay in just has a river for a road.
