Remember folks. These items may not be the most appetizing. But when it comes to prepping fillers are critical. Taking a can of soup or stew and adding a half cup of rice as the base. Will be much more filling and keep you from feeling hungry again in a few hours. $20 5lbs of rice 5 lbs of beans 8-10 cans of veggies a few cans of meat. May not be much but every month you invest that $20 or if you can do more adds to that extra security of your most basic necessity. Tap Water i boil or use purification with a filter. Bottle it after cleaning the bottles well i use used 2 liters. And if i have the funds i buy water from the store as well usually distilled and bottled.

Good point about salt and definitely don't forget The dry spices!

Been doing all of this for a number of years now. I'd emphasize that you should get things you like to eat, in addition to nutritional and storage concerns because you never know how long you're going to be eating it and it may get monotonous, so some variety is also a good idea, as is getting a variety of seasonings. Sugar and flour are something else, not as easy to store long-term, but it can be done, flour in particular should be put in the freezer for a few days before storing in order to kill any of the bugs that tend to be the flour, and probably many people have had to throw out flour at some point, because even in bags that have remained sealed they still manage to get in.
Of all the suggestions, I'd point out that water is the most critical for a variety of reasons, but the most important is that you can go for a number of days without food, but you can only go three days without water and they say to maintain your health, you should drink a minimum of 64 ounces a day, so put that in your prepping calculations.

Rice and beans, while nutritious and inexpensive, do require fresh water to cook. If the GRID is down, you might want to stock MINUTE RICE and CANNED BEANS to conserve your FRESH DRINKING WATER SUPPLY.

I check Goshen Prepping several times a day and look forward to your new content. I have to admit that many canned foods aren't my favorites. For instance I'd much rather have a fresh roast beef than canned, but when I can't have fresh all of my stocked supplies will see me through hard times. Thanks and keep up the good work.

Canned foods are the way to go. They store for a while. Soups, meats, beens, Vegas and fruits .. Good for bartering too. We don't eat much rice. But we all agree on pork and beans. I 🙏 we all have success with our gardens this year.

I’m eating peanut butter right now from February 2021 and it’s fine and I’m fine.

Great basic list but I would add vinegar to the list. You can use it so many ways from preserving food to household cleaner, to laundry to wound wash depending on the wound.

I buy 44 oz cans of mixed nuts at a discount store near me for $ 10 each. Amazing protein and calorie count per dollar, and stays good in a unopened can for years. Do the math. It's one of the best preps ever.

Never too late to start, but those that ready now can work on the next prep.

Supplement preps with a few survival items and some knowledge.

I like to have several ways to filter water on hand, such as chem tabs, charcoal filters, membrane filters, Millbank bag, steel single walled flask for boiling.

Also hand to have portable camping stove, Kelly kettle, larger gas stove.

Another great idea is to learn some foraging, be able to identify edible plants all year round. Many common weeds are edible, some young leaves from trees etc. There are over 100 different types of edible wild plants where I live, there is no need to go hungry, but stay away from mushrooms unless you really know what you are doing.

Also be aware that if you live near the coast it’s easy to go to the shore and collect shellfish.

Round this out with learning how to fish and snare, and your preps will go A LOT further.

20 lbs of GV rice is $10.97 ( was $8.88). Aldi can green beans are only 50 cents a can here in Kentucky

These are very good suggestions. Canned goods are great because most of them contain water. We know our water supply could be hijacked. And most of these suggestions are good for vegetarians like me.

Great information. As troubling times increase, definitely focus on the things we can control. That is our food and water preps. 🇺🇸👍🏾😃

My friends have plenty of money but they totally dismiss the need to put aside an emergency supply of anything! They all said they'd just come to me, so I have a stockpile of RAMEN for them. I said, "You get RAMEN, if the SHTF", and I MEAN IT!!!! We've been having this conversation for over 10 years.

I cook my beans, rice, pasta. Veggies, then dyhydrate them, will use less energy to make them into a meal. Use less room for storage too

I live near an outlet store for a large meat manufacturer. They seen to do alot of turkey and sandwich meats. I can buy 5 pounds of diced smoked turkey for 4 $ and 10 pounds of turkey ends of sandwich meat for 4$. I cube the ends and freeze dry them. So for 2.50 I can store a 5 pound bag of turkey chunks for 20 to 30 years in a tote... love it! They also sell smoked turkey and chicken deli sandwich meat for 1$ a pound. Its an hour away so all my friends let each other know and shop for the group. I have a monster meat slicer so I get stuck slicing and packaging lots of meats😢...

For water storage, I prefer 5 gallon jugs that are sometimes seen in dentist or doctor offices. You can find them for free on Craigslist and other sites where free items can be found. I’ve also seen the dispensers for free there.
