I feel like companies should start paying their candidates for their time. This would hold more companies accountable for process bloat, ghosting and leading candidates on.

Ironically I was a backup candidate, but I only found out 1-2 months later my last interview with them. Basically, the guy they actually hired took another job after accepting with the company. I thought they ghosted me and I told the recruiter I thought you guys didn’t even consider me and then he let me know the situation. Sufficed to say, I stayed with them for 10.5 yrs and it was great there.

Hey Ben! Just wanted to thank you for your videos – they have really helped me view things from the perspective of the recruiter.

After going a few months with no luck I was finally offered a dream position in the sports media industry! Keep putting out great content, your channel deserves more love.

This happened like 15 years ago. I was interviewing for a middle management role with this "Entrepreneurship" organization. Made me go through 6...YES 6 rounds. In the 4th round I made several mistakes and expected to be removed but surprisingly I moved ahead. I asked the HR and she told me there was only 1 other candidate that was "more favored" at this point so I still had a chance. It was only at the very end (of Round 6) when I got eliminated that the HR told me that the other candidate was way too good of a fit and got the role. Turned out they had 3 candidates only moving through the process and couldn't eliminate me from round 3 onwards. She said that they had wanted to eliminate me on round 4 but needed "choices" for senior management in future rounds. The hiring manager contacted me after HR did and I confronted her with what HR said. She admitted it and apologized. I later found out HR got scolded for saying things she should not have.

"We are interviewing other candidates and will be in contact" - is this always a bad response?

Hey Ben, thank you for the video. If the company told you after your interview that they want to interview other candidates (basically stringing you along). And eventually they give you an offer. Don't you feel like you were not their first preference? Would you accept their offer?

This happened to me at my last job, I wasn’t their first choice but I guess I was “next on the list” in case something happened. at my last job, the interview went really well and it ended up being a casual conversation, however they hired someone with more experience. but then about a couple weeks later they contacted me and asked if I was still looking for work, which I was at the time. They said the person they hired before me only came for o couple days and didn’t show up after that (the person probably found something else and didn’t give notice) and they offered me the job. Although, I’d rather be a company’s first choice, I still needed a job so I accepted it.

I like interviewing the company and hiring manager, more than they end up interviewing me!

I've been asking for compensation for my time and travel! If they say "NO", then I won't attend their interviews! We have to take control of our time and careers, ladies and gentlemen! Don't let hiring managers and recruiters waste your time, energy and effort!

My recruiter said I wasn’t qualified for my job even tho I have the experience and people to back up my experience she continued to say I wasn’t qualified and that but I asked what makes me not qualified they said because I bounced companies and that I didn’t have enough time to understand my job but I was with one company for three and a half years and another for a few months then I moved back home and was the reason why I was looking for the job and I under stood my job and was proficient at what I do

Thanks for the video. Q: I exchanged a couple emails and calls with a recruiter 4 months ago. He was clearly overwhelmed and followed up 60 days later saying they wanted an advanced degree. I thanked him and moved on. He is emailing and calling again saying he changed the job description requirements.. any thoughts/experience? I have to wonder if the candidate they chose didn't work out and/or the company is a bit flaky.

Your videos are great. Full of good info.

The background music is distracting.

I played myself down, I shouldn't have done that.
Let's see what happens after I essentially not care anymore bet they'll change their minds 😂

I so agree with everything that you mentioned. I was recently told by a recruiter that they are pausing my application for now (after 2 rounds of interview) and that they want to be in touch on a monthly basis to assess their hiring needs and my job search status. Is this common too and do they actually mean it?

‘Back up candidate’…. Seems what you really mean is that the comparison person is often just there to be sh*t on so some people can feel big

Hello Ben, I have interviewed twice for this dream job and they had all the green flags indicating I'm the primary candidate. But they are taking more time than announced. I exchanged with the headhunter and he said that they really loved my interview but are having a hard time deciding between me and another candidate and are wishing to come to a conclusion within the week after an internal meeting. I offered to send in references if needed, no answer since then. What do you think of the situation ?
Ps : thanks for your video!!

How long should we reach out to recruiter once they told you that they are still interviewing others and might take a couple of time?
Thanks Ben

Did is why im workingg to getting my mobile food service off the ground, avoid this bullshit and hire based on position availability.

"Hey I'm sorry I am looking for three people and out of the 25 that applied, I already found my ideal picks. Continue on looking and don't be discourage, I will keep your resume and application on file should a position opens for you."
