Losing muscle (atrophy) can happen in a matter of days if you're bed bound. However if you're walking and doing daily tasks it takes about 8 months to notice a significant loss your gains (this is from a study)

In general, you dont lose nearly as much muscle in your legs as your arms and upper body in general from a lack of lifting. You still use your legs to walk and do other physically “demanding” things every day, like climbing stairs, or whatever else you do with legs, while you basically only do very small tasks with your upper body. Try not training biceps for 90 days, and youll see probably half an inch taken off of them

You still hit calves by walking, but really skipping would make difference. Not big difference though and you would get them easily back :D

I went back to training my legs after an injury, and starting over again made me waddle like a penguin for a few days

If you still do daily things like running, walking, even squatting to pick something up. You aren't necessarily gonna lose any muscle mass, you will just be losing the muscle form, it will just need to be trained back up inorder for said muscle to retake its form

I stopped cable curls with a rope for 2 months and began training dumbell curl instead. I got way stronger on the dumbell curl, but when I tried cable curl again, I was at the same strength when I stop the exercise. I thought the strength will translate. The world is a strange place.

It depends a lot on your diet also. If you are on deficit you will tend to loose more as long you have excess muscle. Also slow endurance cardio will also result in loss of calf muscle.

you use calves constantly when you walk around, so you could probably almost maintain them as they are by walking around and cycling (might depend on how large and heavy you are)

You don’t lose things you build for months in a short time and you train muscles indirectly with other exercises. For example if you don’t train biceps but you train back pull ups and rows also effect biceps.

I think it's normal that your calfs didn't get so smaller because even if you're not training them they work when you walk, sprint or just standing on foot.

if you stop working out for a long time only your stamina will gone but you can restore it easily

I had an ankle sprain not too long ago which meant around a week of total leg inactivity, which did make me lose a lot of definition in comparison to my other leg, but not that much mass.
