Router Mode vs Access Point mode
Which mode is faster and more stable & which mode is suited in which setup?
Through this video I have tried to answer all such questions. Most leading mesh wifi setups include both the modes and it becomes crucial to understand the difference between the two. I have used a very simple and practical approach to explain difference between Router & Access Point Mode.
Please post your comments below and I would be happy to answer

This is the ABSOLUTE BEST explanation of the differences between Router and AP mode I’ve seen. It’s SO simple. Thank you so much!

Thank you, very informative. I've been searching Youtube for a study between Router mode and a access point mode, and you have provided the answer. I will go for Router mode with some new TP-Link Deco M4 mesh routers.

Dozens of videos watched and only those two are explaining everything that I was wondering perfectly. Again the Indian guy is here to teach and save the day. Good work sir.

I've got a modem central with router functionality. I have 3 lan kabels to all the areas where i would need an acces point. I have 3 Deco's. Couldn't tell if i would be able to connect all the Deco's via the lan cable to the router and use them as AP's and the router as central wifi point. As i look at your video's in AP mode the Deco's need to be connected to each other via wifi of cable and not via the main modem/router. Am i correct? thanks!

Thank you for this. You are a very good explainer of these types of concepts. I'm glad I found your channel.

The main thing is what is the lag in milli seconds for the device to switch between these nodes when you move around in two modes. That is missing in this review. Did you run the AP mode speed test after the swith or before the switch?

Thank you for this video. I have been getting random disconnections and slow downs with my X20 which is connected to my Arris modem/wifi router. There were no instructions telling me that I had to put my Arris into Bridge mode for the Deco Mesh system to work correctly in WiFi Router mode. All the installation videos just say plug then connect via Deco App. Also did you change the default DNS servers to a better one for speed and reliabiltiy?

Enjoyed your video thanks for sharing. I have my home and then 2 buildings next to my home and both are connected to my home by 2 ethernet cables each. Would my best option be to run all in AP mode and daisy chain them together? I would like my home and 2 buildings all to be on the same network. I also have two switches in my home to control other wired devices. Would the Deco just plug into the first switch? Hope your channel continues to grow you explain things very well!

Thank you. So basically since my ISP modem broadcasts WiFi and I have a small place where the deco will be close to the modem, I should use router mode for seamless roaming.

Hello as you said in a video ap mode is not advisable when main router and deco near each other? Also what if i switch to AP mode so basically my deco hardwire to my isp router then how about my 2nd deco? Should i need also to hardwire it or just leave it as wireless since it is connected to my main deco.

Hi Jay, why put the decoders in AP mode and not mesh? You can configure the main one as AP and from then on all of them as mesh to create a mesh network, wouldn't the network be more fluid?

Hello friend, I am trying to resolve a double NAT issue and was wondering if just converting to AP mode and then having my device connected to the Deco resolves that or if the mode is irrelevant and I need to change a setting on my router itself?

Hi Jasdeep, I have a mutli 4 story house that is wired and all wires meet in basement. Currently ONT modem device also is right next to all the wires in basement. I added a switch to network all the house jacks, and I would like to add Decos as AP wired backhaul. So is my setup correct like this ? ONT with in basement. Then Deco on Level 1 as AP and use jacks in each connected via Switch on Level 2, Level 3 as AP. Is this the only possible conflict free setup ? Thanks for your videos.

Hi Jay, great Video explanation. I am currently using 2 Deco X20 connected to my Kaon AR2140 router. Can you advise the best setup connect connect this 2 Decos in home of 3 Storey (Main router is at 2nd floor) with several static and non static devices. I am thinking of setup : Router AR2140 --> MAIN DECO (Router mode) --> Second DECO (AP Mode). this is to take advantage of the features that is supported by Deco in router mode i.e. Monthly report, Antivirus, Connection Alerts, Parental Controls, QoS, and others that is not supported by DECO in AP Mode.

@Canada_Facts Thank you for your explanation. One question is if this same concept would apply to the Tp Link Deco s4. I'm running them as AP from my ISP provider right now and I'm not getting the speeds that I should.
