I have almost same setup. Fios router in far end of the house, I have a hardline cat5e cable from fios router to office computer in other end of house because wifi sucked up there. Anyway, my plan for orbi mesh is to install orbi router up in office on existing hard line which would be opposite side of house, setting it up as an access point, then put satellite somewhere else in middle of house somewhere between fios router and office. Hoping it works out and your video helped make me more confident in it and setting it up. Just waiting for delivery now. Thanks!

I know this is an older video but just ran across it as I am considering changing my Orbi system from Router mode to AP mode. PSA - don't leak your Public IP like you did in this video.. it shows your IP in the web based Speedtests you run.. wrong person gets ahold of that and your entire network can crumble. Might want to add something to cover those up in the video editor.

This video was very easy to understand and follow. Thank you. One question... I plug the ethernet cable from the back of my (I'm my case) Xfinity router to the back of the Orbi router, right?

Thank you for this video. I didn’t want to use mine as a router either.

Thanks for your informative video. I have a few questions. 1. Is there any problem if you set your Orbi (in AP mode) with the same SSID as the gateway (the modem/router combo)? It seems to me that this is a better choice. All the networks in the house will be merged into one. 2. To use Orbi in the AP mode, do you must turn off the wifi from the gateway? If you don't turn it off, what is the problem? I am interested to use wifi from all the units (gateway, orbi main and orib satellite) to get better accessibility. 3. To use Orbi in the AP mode, do you have to set the gateway in the bridge mode? If you don't set the gateway in the bridge mode, is there any problem? Thanks.

I have this same mesh system. Is there a way for me to choose what band my wifi devices go on? It automatically sets them for me as of right now and I don’t like that.

Man i really wished you would have shown how you hooked everything up. I'm really curious to see if AP Mode is good for me but i'm not quite sure how to physically set it up from ISP provided modem/router combo to Orbi router/sat.

When you connected your laptop to the router to configure it to AP mode, did you mean to connect the laptop directly to the Orbi router, or the Surfboard router.? I'm looking at connecting my Orbi to a Starlink router so not sure if I need AP mode or not. Thanks for your video.

Did you have to turn wifi off on your original router? I have had conflicting videos, saying to turn off so you get maximum out of the orbi.

Really helpful video! Question -- I have an old house with plaster wall over steel mesh lath, so wifi signals don't travel too far. The Orbi RBR850 Router spec sheet says it "can support up to 3 Orbi Satellites." If I turn the Orbi Router into an Access Point, would that allow me to use more Orbi Satellites, or would I still be limited to 3 Satellites? Also, could I build a wifi network with multiple Orbi Access Points (using multiple RBR850 units)?

Try adding a Netgear Nighthawk A7000 usb wifi adapter to the old computer. It sped mine up compared to the older built in wifi card

ive got a rbk53 ac2200 orbi setup. Everything SEEMS to be working, but I can rarely access my orbi router via app or laptop (browser) ; I also have it set up as AP mode, as I have Frontier Fios Modem/Router combo. Do you have any idea why I cannot access orbi router via app/browser? My speeds are fine (Fios is 100/100, and I'm getting 100mbps+ on speedtest).

Nice and usefull video thx! Have one litlle question though... What's the benefit of setting the orbi to AP mode instead of Router mode? I have it set to router mode wired on my standard modem/router. (wireless function off) thanks in advance!

I may have missed it but did you set the SSID of the Orbi setup to the same SSID as your current WIFI router? if you did then cool but if you never then do you have to switch wifi connections as you move throughout the house? also did you hard wire your Orbi Satellites? ty for video #thumbsup
