In this video, I want to cover the performance difference between an access point and a wireless mesh network as well as a short review on the Unifi outdoor access point. I will cover the basic differences as well as do a few benchmarks so we can see the impact.

This is the information I was having such a hard time searching for. A real 1 to 1 test rather than a broad theoretical “it’s better wired”. Thanks!

Mike thanks! Can you comment about roaming continuity performance between wireless mesh and multiple wired same-SSID APs?

My use case is sometimes during live online meetings, I have to go upstairs/downstairs, and not sure but I feel mesh has better seamless connectivity better than AP.

My hypothesis is that mesh uses same channel and there's some handoff intelligence built into router-nodes, hence there's no disconnection at all.

While in AP mode, there's no intelligence in the APs to handoff, and although SSID is set the same, channels can be different. Hence whole roaming, the client device has to first realize network from one AP is dropping, then search for another channel and then connect. During this time, an online meeting will disconnect for at least 30 seconds.

Any view? Pls comment. This is not related to UniFi.

Will multiple wireless access points all broadcasting the same SSID? I don't want my devices to have to switch networks between rooms...

Thank you for this video! However I'm having trouble with some things. I'm thinking of using the tplink wap 245 wap instead of a wireless solution such as the tplink decox20. With tplink wap245 will I be able to create a mess network so there will be seamless switching of network on my devices when I move closer to a new ap? Thanks again mike

So is using these with wires the same then as using the circular access points? Building a 3600 sq ft home and have to tell them where to drop the Ethernet hookups to. Was thinking of just doing one on the ceiling of the main room upstairs and downstairs. I'm just unsure if I do this mesh system with wires or something like the AC pro
