How To Wire Orbi's While In Access Point (AP) Mode

In this video, I will show you the correct way to connect your Netgear Orbi satellites to the main Orbi hardwired while in access mode "AP" This will guarantee that all the Orbi units will put out the max speeds through wifi. You can also separate the Orbi farther apart if they are hardwired. Only turn on AP mode if you have a stand alone router.

I've tried it as per the Orbi manual but nothing mentioned about AP mode there. So thank you very much for your advice Rick. finally I've got full speed and ethernet backhaul via my satellite!

Thanks for this video. Just got two Orbi's today and this helped me a bunch. I put one hard wired in my barn where I have an Elexa. Everything is working great.

Thanks for making the video. I only wanted to confirm that it's going to be possible to use it in AP mode like this and you did that.

Thank you, Rick, for your Video; I have a quick question when I set up the Orbis as AP (Also wired, as you explained), will the Mesh still work fine, or will it be a direct node-to-node AP mode connection? So if I have my phone on wi-fi calling mode, when I am on call and move downstairs, will the call continue or get dropped because it moved to the second satellite node? If the Mesh still exists with this setup, it will be fantastic; please let me know if you have time.

Thanks for your video. I have the Orbi RBR50, and I have FIOS as my ISP and it uses a G1100 router. I've been having a LOT of difficulty with keeping the wifi signal running "Internet may not be available". I finally switched the Orbi to AP mode, and left satellites connection wireless. I'll see how they work, if they're slow, I'll hardwire them.Once again, THANKS!

Hi thanks for the video, I just got my pair of Orbi’s. It’s running on WiFi right now. But now I want to hook it up with Ethernet like u did. Do I just hook them up with cables like you did from the router unit and that’s it or do I have to change settings after I plug them together with the Ethernet cables?

are you using the main Orbi as AP also or just the two satellites? ? and why using switch why not connect the main Orbi directly to the router ? thanks

Hi Rick, I just spent all day at my brother's house trying to get his Orbi's to work together. In the house he has a set of 3 RBR50's (2 are RBS50) and he has an Ethernet cable going out to his wood shop where there is a set of 3 Orbis: 1 RBR750 and 2 RRS350s. They are configured as a different SSID which he would rather have all 6 ORBIs using one SSID. Is that possible by putting the Shop router in Access Mode? Thanks, Mike. He also bought a newer set of WIFI 6 ORBIs RBR750s which we were trying to replace the RBR50s but that only muddied the waters. So we put everything back the way it was earlier in the day - as I explained first.

Hi Rick, My home is not wired for ethernet and I have an Orbi RBR20 router with 3 RBS20 satellites spread through the house (no backhaul). I am having a lot of issues with internet connection dropping intermittently when I enable the built in Circle parental control software in the Orbi. From what I see online, it is a known issue and Netgear/Circle have not fixed the issue. I have already invested in these Orbis so I would like to use continue using them for WiFi. If I purchased the Synology RT2600AC router (have a Synology NAS and like their interface and their parental control seems to be well built) will I be able to use the Synology for parental controls only? If I wire the main RBR20 to Synology router and change it to AP mode, will I be able to use change the satellites to AP mode and continue using them wirelessly?
Fios ONT --wired--> Synology RT2600AC --wired--> RBR20 --wireless-->RBS20 x 3

Thanks for the video!

I have a very long narrow warehouse and my main internet/switch is at one end on the room. I was hoping go from the Switch -> Orbi Router -> Satalite -> Satalite. Is this possible or does each satellite need to be plugged into the router?

HI great video. I just have a question. I have the same setup with satellites. My main router in basement. A satellite on 1st floor, 2nd floor, and backyard. My issue is a (ex. device that is right next to a satellite will connect to my router in basement, or satellite furthur away then the one right next to it) Then devices will get crappy wifi. This happens on multiple devices. Do you have any experience with this. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the video!

Just quick questioon.
How does mesh AP modes are differnet?
While in mesh your device connect automatically to the best WiFI satelite, when it comes to AP, does not it work the same way, except that APs can wired?

thanks, that was very informative, can I connect the orbis directly to the main router I have ? and let them all the 3 work as an access point ? (not direct wired connection between the orbis)

Is the inability to run the satellites via ethernet through a switch to the main router (to have maximum speeds on all devices) limited to the Orbi or essentially a limitation of all mesh systems ? Can you suggest one that allows a switch if available ?

Do you know if the hardwired backhaul desactivates the wifi third band (5ghz 1700mbps) dedicated to the communication between router ans satellites. If yes it's a big speed issue ( 1000 mbits (hardwired) vs 1700 Mbps in 5ghz wifi for the Rbk50 kit)....

I purchased an Orbi router/modem combo. I had an existing RBR50 Orbi router with 2 satellites. Can I use the RBR50 router as a satellite in the new setup in AP mode? The satellites and RBR50 router would be hardwired back to the Orbi router/modem.

That is strange I have a set of RKB353 in router mode and I hardwire them but for some reasons I can never get 1GBPS when I plug in my MacBook Pro or Dell Latitude 7490 to the satellites via Ethernet cable any idea why?
