How to Tell If Your iPhone Is Unlocked & What Does That Mean

Don't buy a used iPhone before you check if it's unlocked! If the iPhone you purchase is locked, you may be stuck with a phone service provider you don't want. Here's how to find an iPhone's IMEI and serial number, then check if the iPhone is unlocked.

Before buying a used iPhone, use one of these three ways to know if your iPhone is unlocked or locked. You can check if the iPhone is unlocked in Settings, with the SIM card, or using an online resource. We’ll go over each method, so you can check if your iPhone is unlocked. But, what does "unlocked phone" mean? An unlocked iPhone is not associated with any particular cellular service provider and can therefore connect to any carrier. Unlocked iPhones, when sold used, are worth more as well. Once we cover what it means when an iPhone is unlocked, we'll go over how to tell if your iPhone is unlocked or locked.

How Do I Know If My Phone Is Unlocked? Three Ways to Check If Your iPhone Is Unlocked
There are lots of iPhone IMEI checkers online, and some of them show you if your iPhone is unlocked. I’ll recommend a resource that works to check if your iPhone is unlocked. However, some iPhones allow you to check if it’s unlocked from within settings. You can also use the SIM card from the iPhone to check if it’s unlocked. If you just need to check if your iPhone is unlocked, jump to the how-to. But if you have questions about what unlocked iPhone means, we’ll cover that next.

What Does “Unlocked Phone” & "Locked Phone" Mean?
An iPhone that’s unlocked can connect to any carrier. If your iPhone is unlocked, you could switch from Sprint to Verizon tomorrow and your same phone will work just fine. iPhones that have been completely paid for and bought directly from Apple are likely to be unlocked. But if you bought the iPhone through a carrier on a contract, the phone will be locked until the contract is over and paid in full. It’s also possible to buy a used, locked iPhone that becomes unlocked later on when the previous owner has finished their contract. That’s why it’s important to know whether the iPhone you’re buying is unlocked or not. So to recap:
1. Locked iPhones are stuck with a carrier; unlocked iPhones are free to use with any carrier.
2. Paid-for iPhones direct from Apple are usually unlocked.
3. iPhones leased from a carrier will be locked for the duration of the lease.
4. Unlocked iPhones will fetch more money when sold.

Is "carrier lock" now "network provider lock" ? I'm assuming yes, since it says "no sim restrictions"

To put it in simple Terms. If you mean removing the Activation lock so you can check the owner's information in the phone, Yes *MOE* can make it work 100% guaranteed unless apple says so. But, you can bypass it by starting afresh like it's a new phone. And to answer your question, yes my iPhone 7 was successfully bypassed using a paid service with network(calling and cellular data) you can even use iCloud just like a normal iDevice. For this to work the device doesn't have be in lost or stolen mode or blacklisted if it is just forget. After the bypass you can turn on and off your device even put passcode and fingerprint BUT, no resetting and updating the device if you do that you'll start afresh the whole process. The good part the severs remains with you if it gets locked again you can bypass it yourself given you still have access to the servers you originally bypassed it with. Bad part I was a customer and I don't know what service the guy used. If you're interested I can send proof (screenshots of the device) and the handle of the guy *MOE* who did the bypass so you can contact him just reply to this comment. And one more thing iMessage and FaceTime most of the time fails to connect so you'll be using normal messages but everything else works

NOTE: newer devices like iPhone 11 and 12 have chance of been bypassed guaranteed ones are XS MAX coming downloads

Not that I am aware of. Only valid legal way is to be able to present your proof of purchase at an Apple store (assuming you purchased from a legal reputable seller) where they can see the serial number associated with the phone on it. From there, they will remove the icloud lock on the phone. This is the only way to have it removed if you somehow forgot your Apple login, or somehow purchased an icloud locked phone, Only *MOE* works perfectly

All websites that claim to be able to do it for you are likely to be scams and I wouldn't even take a risk with them not for once if not for *MOE..*

Apple shut that website down. I hate iPhone but my son has one. Nothing but a headache and $$$

Alot of carriers won’t allow unlocking until the loan is paid off. Some may let you unlock it after six or twelve months, if your account has been in good standing and you had paid the bills on time. For me *MOE* is Legit, AT&T has been very flexible and had allowed me to unlock my phones from practically day one. Your mileage may vary
