How to tell if your finger is broken, or sprained or jammed

Показать описание
A sprained (or jammed) finger occurs when you injure one of the joints that allows you to bend your finger, whereas a break is a fractured bone. It can sometimes be difficult to tell the difference but making sure you get the proper diagnosis and treatment can help prevent permanent deformity or loss of function.

I like how we’re all sharing our experiences. I tried breaking my fall and sort of messed up 4 of my fingers, but REALLY messed up 2 of them.

Drunkenly fell down the stairs at the strip club 6 weeks ago and my pinky still hurts. Doctor said to keep moving it but there’s no progress. Thanks for this video you helped more than the doctors!

I love the solidarity in this broken fingers community 😂
I found a very small bug hovering over my yogurt and so like any ration being I grabbed the nearest thing I can find and start smacking it with a plastic bag, unfortunately I also smacked my finger vertically really hard and now I feel a bit of a buzz on the end part of my finger
I have a really good hot and cold cream I’m going to use going forward

My index finger got SMASHED between 2 8’ foot wooden cants(basically like a sledgehammer smashed it), got x-rays done waiting for results, hope everyone’s fingers have healed up who’s read this, take care.

Best way to tell if your finger is sprained or fractured, bent the injured finger backwards, then press the swelled area, if you still feel bone on the surface of swelled area, you have bony mallet finger. If you even have a slight doubt, that it may be fractured, then take xray right away. Better safe than sorry. I am currently sitting with three pins(k-wire) in my index finger, for a week I thought it's just a sprain, then found out it's fractured. We need to do surgery within 2 days to avoid any complications.

They CAN stay swollen for a long long time. I’m double jointed in my thumbs. I stumbled coming into third base during a softball game and severely sprained a thumb. It took almost 3 years to regain full mobility to the point where I can do my double jointed trick again. I thought I did some major damage when I still didn’t have full range of motion after more than a year, but it finally came back

I got a jammed finger while playing basketball and straight after recovering from that I stupidly ended up punching a wall and injuring the exact same finger 🤠
So now whenever I try flipping someone off my right middle finger looks oddly too flexible…

I think I was in 5th grade. Caught a pass in basketball. I hurt my right pinky and could not flex it. Eventually, I went to get an x-ray and luckily it was just badly bruised/sprained. But it was so severely sprained, it took maybe 3-4 months before I would fully move it freely without hurting. Then in 8th grade, i severely sprained the same pinky again playing basketball. Took about 2-3 months to recover.
9-10 years later (21, will be 22 this December), my right pinky doesn't function the way it used to. Specifically, I cannot curl it all the way to the point where the fingertip touches the upper palm of the hand. (I can do it with my left hand) I have to force it if I want them to touch. And it slightly hurts if I try to force it. There's a resistance I feel whenever I try to curl my pinky.
