On today's episode of XHIT, fitness trainer Kelsey Lee shows you how to do a burpee with the proper form. The burpee is one the most popular bodyweight exercises and today we are going to break it down, step by step, and show you what muscles are used, how to do it the right way, and all the basics of the burpee. I think this is the "best" basic Burpee video here. Good breakdown. I would say as a senior citizen exercizer, the first time I ever did a Burpee, I did not do a push up. I just held a plank. But the burpee is a great move that you can add lots of bells and whistles to. Like she said, form is important. Working with a trainer who can look at your form and help you with it is awesome. Start small and work-up. This will work so many muscle groups and add a cardio component to your work out. I'm here because my trainer put it in my work out and I just needed a reminder of what it needed to look like.

from research: when you squat, the weight should be distributed over the whole feet, not just on the heels... and when you do push ups, tuck in your elbows so you don't put undue stress on your shoulders... i love burpees!

To Anita Hong, there are many ways to "ease in" to a push up if you can't do the full movement. If you can do the squat and leg thrust, simply hold the plank position for, say, 10 seconds, and complete the movement. Crawl legs in or jump them up. No shame in doing. Repeat.
Next step is to do the squat, thrust and then drop to your knees and do a push up from there, then complete. Remember to go slow and stay safe and in control. Burpees, or any exercise when you are beginning, are not done for speed! If it takes a full minute to do 1 or 2 burpees, so be it!

If you can't support your weight on your arms, start with wall pushups. Contact me on my channel if you have a question.

I like how she teaches to do it slow and controlled first.  Not insane and to 'squat' down after the jump to absorb the shocks so your knees aren't getting constantly bombarded!

Well crap, I can do about 7, then I realized I forgot the push up on several. argh This is my first time at trying this. Our sons used to do them in high school for wrestling practice. Shoot now I realize how hard they were pushed. I'm a 50YO lady and I really want to get in better shape. I do running events, but was told by a runner friend to start a 30 burpee for 30 day challenge. OK I'm trying. He's hoping for the best!

I've done a half burpee which is push up and the kick out and back and another push up.
I haven't done a full burpee for a while . I think at school we did a star jump to really make us think.
so if you want to try one but are a little scared off do the half one first then move onto the full later.

Came here just to see how to do a burpee properly, and now I'm subscribed. Such a good tutorial. I love the graphics and Kelsey's voice is so calm, and the instructions are easy. I have never heard of this until someone mentioned it in a post on a 21 day squat & plank challenge I'm doing. So I decided to Google search it. This is fantastic! *burpee added to workout routine* xD
