Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This YouTube channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!

I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.

I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!

On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.

For 2k it should come with a customised special headcover maybe a different grip
A thank you letter
And a 1000 pound gift certificate

The rusty “RS, ” on the bottom of the putter is absolutely awesome

Still not worth $2k even with the fitting and fancier box 😂

Not gonna lie, I liked the design of the old head cover more. The quality on the new one looks better, but I thought the AZ map was a cool idea. The new putter looks like they put some kind of clear coat over the RS, maybe to prevent the rust.

Custom box should be an option...

Give me plain cardboard and bubble wrap please. I dont keep my putter in a box and it doesnt make a difference to how I score :)

I can't wait to hear how a nice box makes it a better putter

Credit to ping for taking it so well. Seems like they really took your review on board!

I'm going to come out and say it, who cares about the packaging when it's literally getting thrown away anyway.

I have mixed feelings - on the one hand, a simple presentation would tell me that the whole cost of the experience was devoted to getting me the best putter they could provide, and on the other hand, for that cost, the shipping box should enclose a hardshell case with a proper formed velvet lining, like a musical instrument case.

Visually, the packaging is much nicer. BUT, to set some reality back in, Ping just spent about $25 more on the cardboard, instead of a generic white cardboard. So, not really that much different. Ping, like all companies, is trying to SELL a premium experience for what they believe is a premium product AND MAKE MONEY. Nothing wrong with that, and we need to set our expectations accordingly.

I don't putt with a box, with a head cover, nor with a logo. These may be an 'experience, ' but they don't get the ball into the hole.

I don't know why the box is that important. I assume you keep the putter in your golf bag after you take it out of the box.

I have to say I am a little bit sceptical about these so expensive golf equipment. But I totally get it now, that box and unboxing experience is just amazing. Can't wait to get 2.000 quid together to expend on that one, that box is definitely going to look amazing in the attic next to grandma summer clothes (god rest her soul)

I think people are still missing that part of the cost is the fact that it's a one-off that you design from head to toe; you can literally have it any thing you want and they will build it for you. Grind, material, neck type, finish, angle, lines, literally everything. Scotty and bettinardi are the only two companies I know of that offer that service.

You can get much the same putter fitting at hundreds (maybe thousands) of fitting centres. It will be about £250 for an all singing all dancing fitting (price of the putter on top of that) and you aren't restricted to ping either. I don't get what they are trying to do here. It feels very un-ping

most average golfers don't give a damn about the packaging as long as club is protected

I would also agree. The putter is $500-$600 & $1400 - $1500 in "CUSTOM Fitting" is absolutely RIDONKULOUS. I would also like to see a Hat, Towel, Ball Marker or Score Card Holder. I do like #PingGolf better than most & I use a G400 LST 8° Driver too.

About 20 years ago I had a single golf lesson from an ex Ryder Cup player - it cost me about £30 if memory serves me right.

£2, 000 for a fully fitted putter is crazy. You need to tell me if the pros get that set up and if so do they cough up £2K like mere mortals?

Ping you are taking the P***

The most important thing Ping could have done is reduce the price.
I’d take the original box and rather have the fitting cost a grand less.

Maybe Rick should explain the fitting process a little more clearly so everyone has clear understanding of what is offered. It is not just a means of taking your stats and then fitting a putter for you ie. length, lie, face balance etc. Ping will take your stats and then guide you in to the putter that suits your technique. Some of those putters certainly will not be available at retail. Then you have choices of different metals, carbon or stainless steel. Then you’re choosing your milling based on what you prefer in feel. Then you have different hosel configurations, centre shafted, double bend, plumbers neck, and more. Not available at retail. Then you have different finishes which are varied( check out Viktor Hovlands putter, carbon and patina finish. It rusts.) And it is not available at retail. Then you have different weights. Adding tungsten weight. Different brand stamping, plus your own customised stamping as well. Assortment of grips and so on. Even for his original putter. If he chose raw carbon with black finish, that putter will rust. If he chose stainless steel with black finish, it will not. He probably chose the metal based on feel. He would/should have been advised that it will rust. All of these are choices that a tour player can make and now us average Joes have the opportunity to do so as well. Costs a bomb, yes, but what is more ridiculous is those who pay through the roof and more for Cameron Circle T putters that are not even built for them. I think Ricks explanation of the experience is quite poor and not reflective of the whole process. That could be improved as well, as this is beyond a regular fitting for a custom club with some personal stamps added on.
