Star Wars: Squadrons is a space combat game set in the Star Wars universe developed by Motive Studios and published by Electronic Arts. It was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 2, 2020. The game's story is set after Return of the Jedi. Players take control of ships from the Galactic Empire and the New Republic navy. In these ships, they can utilise the movement of power between the ship's functions of weaponry, shields and engines to defeat their opponents in combat. Ships from the Galactic Empire do not have shields, resulting in other additions to their class in pursuit of giving players of both teams equal opportunities. As players earn more experience, they can unlock new weapons, shields, upgrades and various cosmetic items for the pilot and their ship. The game is played entirely from a first-person perspective. Players can check the ship's status, shields and powers by viewing the instruments in the ship's cockpit.
There are four classes of ship for both sides. The four classes include the Fighter Class (TIE Fighter and X-Wing), the Interceptor Class (TIE Interceptor and A-Wing), the Bomber Class (TIE Bomber and Y-Wing), and the Support Class (TIE Reaper and U-Wing).
The game features two multiplayer modes, and a single-player mode:
Story - Set after the Battle of Endor and the destruction of the second Death Star, the story alternates between two customisable pilots: Rao Highmoon from New Republic's Vanguard Squadron and Case Kassandora from the Empire's Titan Squadron.
Dogfight - Up to 10 players are split into two groups of pilots against each other. The mode resembles Team Deathmatch.
Fleet Battles - Following a similar premise to Dogfight, but with the goal instead being able to target and destroy Capital Ships, with the winning team destroying the Enemy Flagship.

I love the game so far, it’s really fun. I do hope sometime in the future we’ll get a mode for 10 on 10 with two squadrons on each team

It's not nice calling a fellow player "garbage" just because they're new to it. What else are you garbage at playing?

10:25 all the "bads" arent really bads (except for maybe the first one, but that's an opinion thing, not necessarily bad.)
1. "Bad players can ruin your team" this is not a con, they have the games ranked and matchmade based on skill so that is not a problem unless you are doing rank placement matches.
2. "Hopefully we get more ships" I actually do not want more ships. motive has good reason for not putting in any more ships. every ship has a role in the game, and also the more ships they add the more balancing they would need to do, and also this game is all canon star wars so adding certain ships and saying they have to do something else is breaking canon.

Welcome to literally every multiplayer game. Some people are bad and will not get good no matter how much training is available.

Just picked this up. I was super into Xwing vs Tie Fighter series back in the day. Hoping to recapture a bit of that, and in VR.

Good review and 8/10 is a fair score. I feel like it’s a lot of fun, light on content, but the content that’s there is super solid. As a disclaimer, I’m a huge Star Wars fan (listen to a weekly podcast, read a lot of the books/comics, and even like the prequel and sequel trilogy along with the Originals, but I totally understand why people wouldn’t like them).

I think the game will be popular with die-hards, especially if they release more content down the line. I also think if somebody is a casual fan and wants a fun squad game to play they should pick it up (maybe on sale).

Played it in VR and after some troubleshooting, Love this game so far! Going to complete story mode before going into the multiplayer. Surprisingly, I didn’t get that much motion sickness from Squadrons like a couple other flight sim games have made me feel.

Brutally honest - there's a short story and 2 and a half MP game modes. One is a an attempt at a MOBA e-sport 'fleet battle', which can be played against AI, the other is dog fight. You'll see it all after 6 or so hours and get bored. Sounds and graphics are fantastic, but this is a Star Wars game, so they absolutely have to be. Enjoyable in the short time it will hold your attention, but severely lacking.

So this is a modern version of Xwing and Tie Fighter series.

This game should get a Hero vs Villian mode or the top player on each team can get a famous starship from the movies. Imagine seeing the millennium falcon in the battle or Salve 1

So is there a briefing screen where you can plan your missions? And does the game allow you to strategically place mines? These are some of the features people were talking about before it launched.
