Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 is an upcoming skateboarding video game developed by Vicarious Visions and published by Activision, set to be released on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on September 4, 2020. It is a remaster of the first two games in the Tony Hawk's franchise: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater (1999) and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 (2000) which were originally developed by Neversoft. It is the first major title in the series since 2015's Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5. In this video Dreamcastguy gives a brutally honest review of THPS 1 and 2. This includes gameplay, multiplayer, create a park, and all the new skaters that have been added along with talk of the major changes. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 is a skateboarding video game played in a third-person view with a fixed camera. The player must score points by performing tricks and complete objectives to unlock levels to progress through the game. Despite being a remaster of the first two games, Pro Skater 1 + 2 will feature tricks that were introduced in later titles such as the revert, spine transfer and wall plant. The player can also create their own skater and skate park with the Create-A-Skater and Create-A-Park modes. The game also includes both local split screen and online multiplayer.

This is how I thought the original game looked at the time.

I don’t think he realizes all these skaters are still going hard.

Licensed skaters are sponsored and locked to their sponsored gear makes sense. Not a big deal

After this, SSX series must be next for good remake

All of the original pros still skate, they're only in their 40s, Tony being in his early 50s. What are you talking about being grandpa's?

Note about the characters being old: to my knowledge, every character from the original game still skates to this day. Steve Caballero for example is 55 and can still rip on a skateboard. So it's not like they're putting people in the game who are too old to skate.

Maannn, 100% getting this! Seeing this review is a total flashback to spending hours playing this in the past.

This game is exactly what I've been wanting from a Tony Hawk game for like 15 years.

Hopefully this game does well enough that they might be convinced to revisit the Underground series with the same kind of approach.

This was my life in 2000. I had a Dreamcast and played both 1 and 2 on there. I also moved around a lot. That year I moved from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to Chewelah, Washington, USA. I got into skateboarding, anime, and games on my Dreamcast particularly Sonic Adventure, Soul Calibur, Tony Hawk, and Shenmue. Before I got the game, I played the Tony Hawk demo about a thousand times with my friends from the Official Dreamcast Magazine and loved it so much. It was one of the hardest years of my life followed up by moving back to Edmonton in spring of 2001 which also was difficult for me. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2 on the Dreamcast are probably in my top 20 games of all time for that reason (with the Dreamcast being my favorite console after maybe the Switch). The game releases on PS4 at 9pm EST tonight, and, 20 years later after THPS1, I am going to play the crap out of this game. Thank you for the video and your story.

[3:00] The stat point system was in the first game, so that's no different.
[4:55] That pull you're talking about has been in all Tony Hawk games.
[7:47] Every game mode you mentioned and couch co-op was in THPS1

This game looks awesome! But if I were you, I would go back and play the originals cause you either forgot about them or haven't played them.

The game does exactly what it was meant to do so well. Let gamers skate even if they know nothing about skateboarding.

I am SO GLAD this game got your stamp of approval! I have been anticipating this game for awhile now, and your reviews have never led me wrong! Thank you for your work my brother.

I think clothing is tied to licensing agreements with the skater. Years ago when I played NBA 2K, you couldn't put Jordan sneakers on an Reebok athlete.

If I were to guess, I would say you can't put customize existing skaters due to branding conflicts. Brands sponsor skaters and likely don't want screenshots of a skater they sponsor wearing a competitors brand showing up on social media, or something like that.

The reason you can’t wear custom clothes on pro skaters is because they’re sponsored by brands. For example if someone is a sponsored skater for baker it won’t make sense for them to be wearing a zero shirt.

This review gave me the last little push I needed to order the game. Had so much fun when I played these games on the ps1.

I’m going to be 31 years old soon. Not many things in life make me happy anymore I’m getting more grumpy. It’s the small things in life that make my day so when I can look back to when I was a child and remember vividly waking up at 7am and throwing pizza bites in a toaster over to play THPS before I actually went out to skate I can say I have found happiness
