Thank you. Have watched several of your videos. You are an amazing instructor!

What misdirected advice.
That vicegrip is to hold the tension on the cables before adding tension to the springs.
Rather put a second vicegrip facing the other way (behind the drum) to prevent the door lifting until you have finished tensioning the springs.

Plus it keeps your cables from unfurling on the ends.

Mentally, I'm not sure if that vice grip is doing a dual-role at the moment, but, also, I've seen people vice grip the rail to block the rollers. I generally consider vice grips as more of a "warning" rather than a "hard stop" as, if improperly used, they can pop off things sometimes.
As with everything, a certain amount of mechanical experience is important.

That is a good tip. But if the door was too hot and flew up that vice grip could release another way would be to put a pair of sea clamp vice grips on each side of the track above a roller. Another way is you can wind one spring then set your cables finish up with winding the second spring to where you have the winding bar in the second spring to control the door

This is an outstanding tip! This would have saved me on a job. Good to know now! I’ve emailed you before about doing a consult call with you. Let me know if it’s something you’re open to.

I tightend my spring (single spring) and had to do that to keep the drums from unspooling as I tightened the spring.

I've reached out to you several times before. I know this reel is 9 months old, but if you can let me know if you only replace torsion springs when they break, or is there a way I can tell prior that they should be replaced? Ty in advance! Michele

My wife threatens to use vice grips on my torsion spring any time I need my spring detensioned. 😂. So I don't ever mess with torsion springs. Leave that to the pros

This guy talks about safety and dangers, yet he features the girl winding the springs standing right in front of the danger zone.

How hasn’t the garage door been redesigned yet after all these years?! There has to be a better way we could make them without that’s springs

You would be better off putting a C clamp on the track
