I’m sitting here in my screen porch with a length of rope teaching myself this knot. Took awhile to understand but I think I’ve got it. I’ve always wanted to learn to tie useful knots. The bowline is my first!

I learned the bowline years ago when I was doing tree work. An old timer taught me exactly how you explained it....with the rabbit going around the tree. I still use this knot to this day. The beauty of the knot is once it's tied, you can put as much tension on it as the rope can handle and you can still get the knot apart easily by flipping the "U" back down over the knot. You should do a "short" about the clove hitch.

"Bro now pls tell me how to untie it, because I need to pee but my short's pulse is not opening now" 💀💀

My father won a contest in Annapolis for tying the fastest bowline knot. He showed me but I can't remember. He took the rope loosely in his left hand and in his right hand he held the rope with a tail hanging. He flipped the tail around the rope and pulled. Vwala a bowline! The experts all inspected it to make sure it was a bowline. It was. It blew their minds! He won a free magazine subscription...yey!

When I was a volunteer firefighter, we used this knot for rescue from large heights. It works. Your life depends on it. The life of the person you are rescuing depends on it.

It’s not the world’s most trusted knot in fact in the climbing community it’s well known that this bowline knot NEED a backup knot.. it’s a great knot cause you can untie it easily but be carefull if it’s not backed up properly you can die if you trust this knot with your life, have a nice day!
