I made a very comprehensive checklist many years ago from an article in Consumer Reports. It was about 2-1/2 pages long. Carried it around on a clipboard. Demoralized the sales people. I can remember a few things: Check the radiator fluid for oil. Look underneath the front to see if it's got grass and mud jammed in it indicating it went into the ditch. Uneven tire wear can indicate improper inflation or alignment issues. Drive it on a bumpy road to check for suspension problems. Push all the buttons and check all the gages to ensure everything works. If it has a sun roof, take it through the car wash and check for leaks. If the engine is totally cleaned, it could indicate they are trying to hide fluid leaks. After the test drive, inspect the engine again for leaks. Open and shut all doors and operate all windows. Check the brake fluid level and condition, and ensure the brakes stop the car without pulling to the left or right. Look down the sides of the car to see if body panels are lined up. Rock (pushing down) the front and rear of the car to test shock absorbers. Verify no oil is leaking from the shock absorbers. Grab the top of each tire and try to rock it by pulling and pushing. Many small things can be fixed. Use a list of problems to negotiate the price to your favor. Make sure you have an accurate assessment of the cost of repairs you're willing to do so that you don't end up paying more than it's worth after you add the cost of repairs.

2 things to I have the salesperson start up the car from cold while I look at the exhaust coming out, white exhaust is bad. 2- look at all 4 tires to see if they match and then tire gauge. been following Chris and Scotty for 7 years.

Just would like to add for tire pressure use the label inside the drivers doorjam for correct tire pressures. The pressure reading on the tire is not what you use.

Get an elm 327 usb cable and install a diagnostic program on your laptop. I got one for $6.22 and installed an open source diagnostic program. I never had any clue that the temperature in my catalytic converter was 700 degrees, before.

Another great video, folks. All your teachings saved me from a stupid buy today, thank you ! My special order Super Duty hit the dealer lot Friday the 1st. Went in today to see what what their best OTD price their best out the door price was MSRP less $500 ! They said that Ford doesn't give them any wiggle room on the Super Duty trucks. lololol Needless to say, I walked/rolled away from a 2024 Special Order truck because of what I learned from you folks Now, I'll start emailing that offer to other dealers to see if any want to negotiate a better price than the local dealer did.

3:51 this is incorrect. The sidewall pressure is the max pressue of the tire on any vehicle. The design pressure is in the manual and inside the driver door (assuring the tires are the factory size).

My car got rejected for emissions today but in 2 weeks my car will be 15 years old and doesn’t require inspection. Can I just wait to weeks bring it back without fixing it and get a passing sticker??

NO!! As shown in the video, the tire pressure shown on the sidewall is the MAXIMUM tire pressure, it is NOT the recommended tire pressure. On heavy duty trucks, the tire pressure shown on the sidewall is what it is typically inflated to, but NOT on passenger and light truck tires. That recommended value is found on the tire inflation decal which is typically on the driver's door jamb area where the certification decal is (saying where the vehicle is made, VIN #, etc.). The official term for the fast flash of the turn signal is called "hyperflash", and yes it indicates there is a bulb out or a wiring problem preventing the bulb from working.

Autozone and other parts chains can run a scan on the vehicle with their code reader/scanner and give you a printout for free.
