Even if I forgive, I know I won't be able to forget, so I will choose to leave the relationship because I know I won't be able to move forward. I may choose to stay initially, but it will grate at the back of my mind and the ending would still be the same.

I feel like eventually you’d have to, if not “forget, ” forgive or let it go. You are now actively choosing to stay with someone who has hurt you that badly. It wasn’t a deal breaker, apparently, so you’d have to stop torturing your partner by bringing up the past that they’ve apologized and tried to make up for. This is way I would never stay lol.

Them forgiving you and choosing to stay after you f*ed up is synonymous with them giving you second chance. It is your responsibility to know the value of that second chance and prove who you really are. THEIR only responsibility is to not give third chances.

You cannot negate the experience that have. If you chose to stay then you do so with the understanding that this will be something that you have to contest with. This applies to both parties. It’s not easy to move past but this is a process that they both have to go through and decide if they are willing to do the work to overcome it.

for me it wasn’t infidelity but rather letting my alcoholism destroy the little bit of time i have with my long-distance bf. it made him mad and i understood why, and i knew it broke his trust in a way. i’ve gained it back but it’s important to me to make sure i don’t let my selfish desires ruin the relationship.
