Jordan's frequent forays into the problem of life's suffering has had a profound impact on my life. I more fully understand that suffering is a universal experience, an inherent part of the human condition, and not just a 'problem with me'. All the little frustrations I must suffer throughout the day from dragging myself out of a warm bed in the morning to stubbing my toe, to not having some little thing go my way are being experienced the world over in one way or another. I am not alone in my sufferings, large or small - and there is comfort in that.

I'm a fatherless, poor mother's son! Recently mom's diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Yet to do the surgery and yet to face the consequences. But I'm promising myself to hold on to whatever may come. Learn things that are essential as I always have. Even when I'm shivering as I'm now and say, "bring it on!".

When people wonder why JP gathered such a wide audience, well look no further than this. He doesn't just speak about wishful thinking, but he challenges us to live up to our potential.
This is truly inspiring stuff!

I enjoyed your talk, Mr. Peterson.
I’m 5 1/2 years widowed. No matter how hard I try to move forward, it just isn’t happening.

I lost my pride & joy, my only son at 18 to a unlicensed dui driver 2 years ago. This man's convictions & words single handed brought me back from the from the brink. Did all I could to just kill myself & die. No purpose, joy, just a empty shell of my former self just waiting, hoping for the end & a reprieve from all this. Then I saw a jp video & started binge watching them. Slowly, very slowly (2 yrs before I genuinely laughed again) I somehow accepted it & moved on not past it but with it. I carry it the best I can everyday somedays I do OK somedays not so much but for the first time I feel optimistic about the future.

My little brothers father has been diagnosed with terminal cancer while having tests on him due to him suffering from a stroke on December 29th. Our mother died in 2017 suddenly out of nowhere and it’s been a tough road since. Now they’re facing the reality there dad won’t be here much longer and they’ll both be parent less before turning 25. I am heartbroken for them and so scared, so I can’t even begin to imagine how they’re feeling. Watching videos like this, reading all your comments is the only thing that I am finding helpful, so thank you all and my heart goes out to you all. Your strength is tremendous and I hope you all find happiness again at some point.

My mother died in July and my father basically starved her to death at the end . He literally told me to my face he doesn’t like me many times after she passed. I was the only one who tried to give my mom more time to say good bye to the family . I picked up her 65 pound body and drove her to the ER when she couldn’t talk or swallow . It was one of the most traumatizing events of my life and I relive it all the time . But I gave her 2 extra weeks ( the first ER visit )and then 2 extra more days to say good bye to her grandkids and siblings. I still cry from the loss and I still blame myself for not doing enough . But seeing her sign her own death by going into hospice and dying the first day, I realized how strong she was and that I’m just as resilient and strong as her . Thank you mom I love you ❤️!

I have my own sufferings, but my pain is much more than what I've gone through or what I've lost, but the suffering of the ones I have loved and lost and their suffering and of the ongoing suffering of all living beings is what truly hurts my soul. 😭🙏❤️✝️

Each of our pain and losses are very varied, we cannot compare.

I’m not always with him on every single view but he really excels in this sort of topic. I think his take on suffering and pushing through and finding the light within to transcend the suffering is pretty inspirational. I’m glad I watched this.

When he gave this speech, he was similarly suffering. The fact he came back from it and is preparing to continue holds even more weight to his words.
With his education, he was familiar with psychology and mental well being. Now, he's living validation that it can be done.
Yet his disingenuous jealous detractors will try to shame him for a very human moment of weakness, because they couldn't come back from what he managed to. You know what's amazing? I bet Jordan Peterson would STILL believe they could, even when they choose not to.

Suffering in my earlier life has made me stronger and accept things the way they are, its also made me self reliant.

What a trouper. I don't always agree with his scientific examples or opinions (generally those that are outside of his area of expert knowledge), but I do respect this man. You can tell the genuineness with which he approaches topics, and even topics which are difficult and emotionally challenging. Anyone who can teach us something while being as vulnerable as he is should at least be admired. Because this is so rare in our day and age.
