Your step by step presentation explaining why puppies bite, the stages of teething, and practical techniques for getting through the puppy biting stage is exceptional. We recently adopted a 3.5 year old rescue dog that was apparently well-trained for her first two years, but her story is that she nipped at a new puppy introduced to her home when she was 2 years old, and was consequently rehomed. We will be getting a 2 month old puppy in a month, and want to educate ourselves in how best to introduce the puppy. Your video has provided some important info to know as we transition to a 2-dog household.

Will fwd to my students. Think it's important to say even with a 5 min timeout, the ultimate goal is to not need any time outs ever. I tell my students to set the timer. If they're as bad or worse, need a longer time out, set timer for 15 minutes. Ready to behave? It's amazing how fast they understand it. When your mother sent you to your room, didn't make you hate your room. Again, ultimate goal being no time outs ever. Really the time outs are for us. Hope that helps.

That was great! Thanks for explaining it so well. My puppy is biting a lot now. I had a previous dog same breed that did the same. She loved for me to give her a Pig ear treat and at 6 mo she didn't like them anymore and I wondered why. Now I know! Duh.

Hi I love your video. It explains so much when I first got my puppy. I was unfortunately given incorrect training methods for the puppy, and I am afraid I have installed fear factors in her. She still loves pets and still is not afraid of our hands but when she does some thing that she knows not to do she immediately winces is there ways to undo this my puppy is nine months, and we are still working on her biting issues.

Thank you so much for this video! We have a dog we received at a year old and although it's not painful she can be rather "bitey" during play and when trying to get your attention. Is following the three strikes rule something you'd recommend for a slightly older dog? Are there any adjustments you think would be necessary for an older dog?

I have a one year old foster who still tries to bite during play all the time. I am going start using. the three strike method. my poor arms are bruised from her toothies. I know she just wants to be with me and play with me but it's very ouchie and I need to get her out of this habit if she is to be successfully adopted.

I've been trying the walk away time out thing but by that time I'm usually irritated enough to be yelling no! In a pretty angry tone so I need to keep myself calm. It's also hard to say no calmly and keep my arm still when she's puncturing my wrist xd even more irritating is that she dosent bite anyone else as hard as she bites me. Makes it feel personal lol. I know it's because she's probably tired or I touch her more but it still grinds my gears. (not that I want her to bite others, it's just that why can't she be nice to me too? Lol.)

Walking etc can be distracting to your puppy! STAND STILL for as long as it takes & AS SOON AS your dog pees or poops outside REWARD THEM WITH LOTS OF GOOD girl/boy & A TREAT... they will get the idea pretty quick!
Also, learn your pups cues 😉
