I had a puppy biting problem, so they rubbed the puppy down with a bitter flavoring to get me to stop.

I helped raise a lab puppy belonging to a family friend (I babysit their dogs), and while he was always pretty good at not biting during play, he’s always been very food-motivated and gets a little overeager at treat time, sometimes nipping my fingers. I still have to work with him on it (he’s 2 now) using a strategy I found worked with the family’s older lab (no longer with us, unfortunately) and my golden retriever, in which I offer the treat with the instruction to be gentle (I often say “Gentle” or “Gentle, don’t bite me”). If they take the treat gently, then they just get it. But if they lunge for it or snap for the treat, I retract it, give the “gentle” command again, and give them one more chance. If they can’t be gentle, they lose the treat for the time being. All three dogs I’ve had to do this for are very sweet, loving dogs that have no desire whatsoever to hurt their people, they’re just just very food-motivated and it’s so easy to nip a finger when they’re excited.

My puppy doesn’t calm down when I grab her collar. She gets more crazy. I have found picking her up to my side like a purse or something makes her calm immediately. She’s an 8 week springer spaniel.

I hope more people see this video. Alot of people think dogs are supposed to what their told when their told and nothing else matters when really u should make sure your respecting your dog and care about things that might upset them or or make them feel some type of way

When my wife and I were raising our Anatolian Shepherd / Pyrennes mix, play was something to be approached with care. Though our boy had a gentle mouth, his teeth were so SHARP that any sideways motion resulted in cuts. Took me months to learn how to play with him safely.

Love it… you see I didn’t know that pushing my Puppy and gently slapping the floor with my fingers is considered play. I was afraid that kind of interaction was just annoying them.
This is the info ppl or at least I am looking for

Pl reply- is using a rope tug toy safe for puppies or would it induce biting? Also pl share vid link for bite inhibition training.

I don’t have trouble with biting but our little girl likes to paw. She sometimes is not so gentle and won’t stop. Could this help? Or is there another way to fix this behaviour?

I would just redirect my puppy to toys. So now he only bites toys.

My way of training is to get in those situations where they want to nip and then correct (over excited then present hand near mouth) Not everyone that interacts with your dog is going to do it by the book so it is good to training for those situations

At first I thought it was going to call me out but than I just realized that I did such a good job training my deaf dog who's 8 years old now. 😢😂

A follow your advice here and my puppy keeps biting. Traying to do different things to entertain him not work. He only wants to bite. Not even treats help

Ok so how do i stop my puppy from nibbling on my fingers when she is sitting and relaxed with me but is worried when i get distracted or my depression kicks in and i put of negative energy.. i need her to tell me but i think the nibbling is a bit to much

Please keep in mind i do not want to train this behaviour out of her as she like my older dog will be a service dog for my anxiety and depression and PTSD and personality disorder.

So i need her to tell me when i need to stop and remember to relax and think positive.

I purchased this particular pup because when i looked at the litter i specifically went on a bad depression day and she was the only one that picked up on this and actively tried to relax and calm me down.

My puppy is a bit older- 15 mos. She’s a rescue and I’ve had her fur 2 mos. She really is the sweetest thing but now that she’s coming out and showing who she is, she is playing more with (other family) dogs and has learned (or remembered😂) the play biting. She will do it to me occasionally- when it’s been awhile since a play date and she really wants to play.
I pshhht her and she stops - might have to do it a second time, but she gets the message.
My issue is- I’ve been working on training her and she’s doing well, except for ‘Down’. I finally got her to do it - and she knows what it means because I randomly (not in training) told her to sit and then said down and she did it. But in training she basically flips herself down and goes for my hand- because she knows there’s a treat.
How do I get her to stop that? And just nicely lay down and wait calmly for the treat?

OhhCharliee..
