In this video, Dr. Berg talks about the 4 health benefits of olives.
1. High in Vitamin E, Iron, Copper, and Calcium
2. Keto friendly - 74% Oleic Acid (Monosaturated Fat)
3. 4-6% Carbohydrates – Fiber 70% - Total Net Carbs 1.5g (per 10 olives)
4. Phytonutrients - Anti-inflammatory, anticancer, heart support, repairing liver damage

One of the drawbacks of olives is they contain lectins, which are large protein molecule that is a defense mechanism in plants, nuts, seeds, etc. which can go into our body and create a lot of inflammations.

The way to lessen lectins is through fermentation and most olives are fermented.
Olive leaf extract is a good remedy for viral viruses and it has anti-histamine properties which are good for rhinitis or sinus congestion.

Great video I live on an olive grove. One thing I might add is that a lot of olives are treated with lye (caustic) before the curing process in our farm we cure our olives naturally without any chemicals in any part of the process. You don't get quite the same recovery from the curing process, although with proper care 95%+ is not uncommon, however you get all sorts of bacteria that the lye would otherwise destroy initially. That bacteria also improves the taste dramatically. I almost dry reach vomit eating "taste test" olives from the supermarket as they are generally mass produced with lye in the process and they taste like soap to me, little surprise a lot of soap is actually made with olive oil and lye. Try find a local farm or a smaller operation that doesn't use lye you will be amazed how good the olives taste and you will also get all sorts of great bacteria for gut health. Thanks Dr Berg keep up the great work.

Dr Berg I was in Morocco for almost 1 year and I ate fresh olives daily for breakfast in olive oil with bread. That was in 1980 and I feel that it kept me well. I was under so much stress at that time.

Thanks, Dr. Berg! I've always loved olives and often put them in salad or on my eggs. Ever since my youngest son was little, he loved olives, as well. He was ecstatic when my Mama would give him a box with jars of olives for Christmas! At 35 years old he still eats a whole jar of olives at a time and is now on a kick of garlic clove stuffed olives. The Bible tells us that olives are to be our food and it's leaves are for our medicine.

Olives are awesome and even better because of all of these great health benefits! I love to take an inexpensive jar of olives and make them taste amazing. I pour off about 50-75% of the brine and add water, tarragon vinegar, my own blend of seasonings (usually garlic, pepper and whatever else I like) and some tabasco. Shake it up and refrigerate. They are so delicious!

I looked up this topic because of all the warnings about that olive oil and I eat olives from the jar for health and for a snack so I appreciate this video as it reaffirms a good habit and reinforces me to buy more jarred olives. As a fun sidenote I remember buying Kalamata olives from the deli and eating them in the movie theater watching diehard four LOL.

Olives are certainly not for everyone. I would say like Marmite you love em or hate them, there's no in-between. For those that do love em they contain extraordinary powerful antioxidants such as hydroxytyrolsol. They'll keep you healthy and make you look younger.
