Forrest Gump was released in 1994, which means they animated that Ping Pong ball with computers pre-dating Windows 95. That is damn impressive.

The motion blur effect applied on the digital ball is what sells it. It's now a commonplace effect used in video games and has been since the mid 00's.

Now THIS is what film-making should look like-a bunch of creative people figuring things out to make everything believable in order to tell a great story! The corporatized bullshit we have today on big screens, or even Netflix...what a huge waste of time, energy and money!

They were doing these effects in the early to mid 90's. Digital technology came along way since then by 11th of September, 2001. Just saying.
