FILM DESCRIPTION:
"Stupid is as stupid does," says Forrest Gump (played by Tom Hanks in an Oscar-winning performance) as he discusses his relative level of intelligence with a stranger while waiting for a bus. Despite his sub-normal IQ, Gump leads a truly charmed life, with a ringside seat for many of the most memorable events of the second half of the 20th century. Entirely without trying, Forrest teaches Elvis Presley to dance, becomes a football star, meets John F. Kennedy, serves with honor in Vietnam, meets Lyndon Johnson, speaks at an anti-war rally at the Washington Monument, hangs out with the Yippies, defeats the Chinese national team in table tennis, meets Richard Nixon, discovers the break-in at the Watergate, opens a profitable shrimping business, becomes an original investor in Apple Computers, and decides to run back and forth across the country for several years. Meanwhile, as the remarkable parade of his life goes by, Forrest never forgets Jenny (Robin Wright Penn), the girl he loved as a boy, who makes her own journey through the turbulence of the 1960s and 1970s that is far more troubled than the path Forrest happens upon. Featured alongside Tom Hanks are Sally Field as Forrest's mother; Gary Sinise as his commanding officer in Vietnam; Mykelti Williamson as his ill-fated Army buddy who is familiar with every recipe that involves shrimp; and the special effects artists whose digital magic place Forrest amidst a remarkable array of historical events and people.

Lieutenant Dan didn’t just hate people calling Forrest stupid because he’s his friend. He hated it because Forrest is the only person that doesn’t think of him as some crippled loser, but as Lieutenant Dan Taylor. That is why Forrest always could count on him.

What’s ironic is when Forrest Gump got his Medal of Honor, Lt. Dan was the first person he wanted to tell. He had that much respect for him.

I think it’s sweet that even though he doesn’t work under him anymore he still calls him “lieutenant Dan”

Lieutenant Dan was a good man, one of my favorite characters from any movie. He was dealt a cruel hand in life, and he took that out on Forest, but I could sense that Forest realised this and that's why he stuck by him.

When Gump says "yes sir" to Dan. Hes still showing him a level of military respect. Even though both are no longer in the military.

He loves Forrest because in his eyes, he’d always be Lt. Dan Taylor. That’s why he won’t let anyone else disrespect Forrest.

"Have you found Jesus yet, Gump?"
"I didn't know I was supposed to be looking for him, Sir."

I love how Forrest changes the lives of people he becomes friends with and makes their lives better.

Lt Dan was like the father/older brother Forrest never had.
No wonder he was always so happy to see the guy.

Fun fact, as Forrest's direct superior, Lt Dan would have had to be the one to recommend him for the Medal of Honor.

Having no legs made Lt Dan bitter depressed and an alcoholic. So many vets experience this reality.

I love that Forrest still calls LT Dan "sir".

"HEY! I'm walking here!"

Says the man in the wheelchair. GOLD😂

You can hear his voice crack slightly as he says "I'll get to *walk* beside him", right before he explodes in anger. That's some truly great acting.

It's honestly sad how Lt Dan dream doesn't come true, and he spirals down to alcoholism. He goes around the room picking up empty bottles. But in the end he makes it. Which is triumph

As time goes by, not only does this movie hold up extremely well, but Lt. Dan's character truly shines. A fantastic character arc. A man driven by destiny, the depths of despair, then redemption. It's quite moving.

"...since he didn't have legs, he spent most of his time exercising his arms." 😂😂😂 didn't notice that joke as a kid.
