Do calories matter if you're intermittent fasting?

Do calories matter when intermittent fasting. One of the most common questions asked from people trying to complete intermittent fasting. It has been made to be calories or intermittent fasting, I break down the truth and what truly matters.

* I'm not a nutritionist nor am I a doctor all information given has been gathered by personal experience and information that I researched and compiled over the years. Always consult a physician before starting a new diet, eating regiment, or workout plan.

Hopefully this puts this question to rest and helps you understand that both calorie intake and Intermittent fasting have to work together for one to have the most optimal results!

Are there any aspects of Intermittent Fasting that you would like me to touch on? If so let me know in the comments section below.

You sir just completely blew my mind lol I finally understand how it all works now.

1. Calorie deficit matters but WITHOUT fasting = losing weight from water, fat and muscle.
2. Calorie deficit WITH fasting = losing weight from fat.

does anyone else experience a natural decreased in their appetite after the 16 hours are up? I'm finding it hard to make it to even 1200 calories during the eight hours I'm supposed to eat because that meal after the fast fills me until it's time to fast again and then I have to be rushing to stuff something in before the eating window closes so I will have enough nutrients to keep me healthy.

Just watched Dr. Oz show. Funny thing is he was discussing mini-fasts. They said just eat between 11-7. It was plain old intermittent fasting. it's crazy how doctors just won't admit that intermittent fasting is a benefit to our health. They would rather create a new term for good old intermittent fasting.

Started IF, doing OMAD since May 15th. Started out at 172lbs at 23% body fat. I am 5'8". Today after one week short of 2 months I am 142lbs at 14.3% body fat. I have been doing some type of workout every day. Push ups, sits up, squats every day. Use a lot of resistant band workouts and built up to doing weights. On my days off which is 3 days one week and 4 days the next I walk a 7600ft long disc golf course in the hot sun. I eat no more than 40-50 carbs a day. Do at least one 36hr fasting session a week. My muscles are bigger, I actually have some abs now. My energy level has improved. I had some health issues I would rather not say, those dont exist anymore. This is all due to Fledge Fitness getting me on the right track. True inspiration. I go on vacation next week to a beach house we rent every year. Wont feel like crap this year with how my body looks. I am 34 years old and I weigh 40lbs LESS than I did when I graduated high school. IF is to thank for that. My goal is to get into better shape and eventually enter some spartan races and some 5k's since I did run cross country all throughout school before my senior year. I will get there.

I think over time IF naturally trains your body how much it should eat. You gradually eat less until you reach your sweet spot. You really don't have to count calories at that point. It just "knows" what is right and you feel full when you get there.

True. I tested this theory and ate at a surplus while on IF and stayed the same weight for months. But as soon as I went into a deficit I lost weight.

You're right, people will argue with you until they are blue in the face. People don't want to hear the truth, they wanna eat how ever much they want to eat😒.

#Facts bro
Remember kiddies: It IS possible to consume more than your maintenance calories in that short feeding window and gain weight. I.F. isn't a quick, easy fix or an excuse to completely lose control and pig out. Weight changes = lifestyle changes. There's no easy way around it. #MyTwoCents

Thanks for your knowledge on this subject. I've been doing IF for 7 weeks now. I've lost 21 lbs and feel great. The first 2 weeks were brutal though. Now that I'm over that I'm on 20:4 window. I do HIIT 3-4x per week. The science behind IF is so simple and the health benefits are extraordinary!

I honestly think they don't matter. I mean, that doesn't mean you should go and eat 10.000 calories every day, what I am saying though is that giving your body the CHANCE to actually burn fat instead of glucose is also important, maybe even more important than how many calories you eat per meal. That is why I think fasting is great, beacuse it gives the body the chance to burn the body fat instead of food.
As always, good video! Keep it up!

It's just all about insulin. Either our bodies are pumping insulin, (while eating) or human growth hormone (while fasting) There is no in between, and it is the insulin, more than the calories that cause the weight gain. ;) Love your channel!

Calories matter when doing Intermittent Fasting or any other dieting approach. But sadly it's not as simple as Calories in Vs Calories out especially when it comes to fat loss.

There is actually a very interesting study that showed that Intermittent caloric restriction (ICR), not to be mistaken with IF, was more effective at stimulating fat loss when compared to traditional, straight, everyday caloric restriction.

What's more interesting is the ICR group did not even do intermittent fasting. Yet they where still able to notice similar benefits in terms of muscle retention when compared IF'ers.

I would link the study but it will get flagged as spam 😥

Maybe the real secret is cycling calories and not only IF.

In regards to Jason Fung. His ideas about calorie restriction not being necessary is not a contested issue because his ideas are being misconstrued. Therefore, new irrelevant issues are being created that have nothing to do with what Jason Fung is saying. He is not suggesting that people can eat an unlimited amount of food simply because they fast. He is simply saying that restricting calories on an ongoing basis causes the body to burn less than the amount that they will eventually go back to eating. This isn't to say that you will be eating less overall when intermittently fasting. That is not an issue because you will be tapping into your fat stores during the fast, but calorie restrictors don't fast. They just eat less throughout the day. This causes the usual insulin spike and then the eventual weight gain from a lowered metabolism.

CICO does matter, but there’s a huge benefit when you’re intermittent fasting especially straight fasting where you eat in a surplus but still be in a deficit weekly. The latter is so sustainable for me and doesn’t make me go insane either.
