What Is Rev-Matching? Manual Shifting!

preview_player
Показать описание
What is rev-matching in a manual transmission? The idea is if you want to shift to a lower gear in a manual transmission vehicle, rev-matching allows for a smooth shift. For a given vehicle speed, the higher the gear you’re in, the lower your engine’s speed. So to downshift from 4th to 3rd the engine speed is going to increase. To compensate for this, the shift is as follows: you push in the clutch, blip the throttle (raising the engine speed to match the next gear), shift from 4th to 3rd as your engine speed climbs, and then let out the clutch. It’s easier on your vehicle, and doesn’t upset the car’s balance while shifting.

I’ve gotten so many hookups by mentioning rev matching at a party

"I am so cool I always rev match
But I think we might match too" ahh rizz

It's a bit easier on the clutch's wear rate as well. If you've ever driven semi trucks with non syncromesh gearboxes, you know absolutely everything about rev matching😅😅😅

I will say, once you get rev matching down it’s so satisfying because 1) it just sounds cool and feels so nice and 2) you didn’t jack up your transmission lol awesome content man. I drive a focus ST and have used your tips

this is what I need to master when driving a manual, my dad only taught me the basics in manual driving but not rev matching, thank you for this video

THANK YOU. I have heard this term for YEARS used among car guys always like "this guy doesn't rev match" but no one ever said what it was.

I learned rev matching in car from riding motorcycle. If we ride/drive so much, It's kinda intuitive to have a smoother downshift, tbh. I rev match back then even without knowing there's a thing called rev match lol. Simply because i want a smoother down shift. As soon as i understand how clutch, throttle, and gear shifting works, i kinda knew intuitively how to blip and have a smoother downshift. And apparently, it's called rev matching, which sounds cool 😂

I do this on my motorcycle. Surprisingly it’s actually a lot easier to do it on a motorcycle. That’s also where I learned how to do manual transmission.

I practiced rev matching for years with a heavy flywheel diesel and electronic throttle. It takes a second till the ecu recognized my throttle input, but you getting used to it.

i think showing it happening its more easy than describing how to do it

The first time I ever drove a manual transmission was in a semi truck. Rev matching is an absolute must in a truck. When I first found out that alot of people in normal manual transmission cars dont rev match it felt like I just discovered that some people still think the Earth is flat.

Rev matching is probably the biggest reason why I still love driving manuals.

wow wow wow. I was doing this without even know what rev-matching was. I used a common sense I guess:) I wanted to shift smoothly. But funny thing was one of my older friends told me why am I holding the clutch when I am down shifting. I didn't listen to him and kept shifting like that. This was years ago. I didn't have an answer that day. I told my self that I wasn't an experience driver and my friend knew more than me. Thank you! Now I have an answer I should call him and let him know:)))

I prefer over-rev matching, matting it just before the clutch grabs, with that enjoyable shove back into your seat... Hopefully your tires can keep up, but it is honestly more fun when they almost can't.

It has been quite a time now that i have practiced this technique and now whenever i downshift (even at lower RPMS) it comes naturally and besides every skill a driver might have mastered, driving smoothly is number 1.

The coolest kids rev match on automatic transmissions.

I started doing it a year back. Now, it is my goto technique when going downhill and needs shifting to a lower gear.
