I'm a 20yr master tech at a dealer and through my experience I can tell you in a shop of 8 guys only about 3 of us know what we're doing. That being said, I'm the only one who's subscribed to you, and most of the others you mentioned in an effort to learn more. If you think you know it all or have seen it all you're wrong. I learn so much from you independent guys it's crazy. I'm truly grateful you guys take the time to put these video's out.

They should have been able to hear that when I crank that

Good job brother. Sad that no one sticks to basic testing. Fuel, spark, compression....would have known right away.

This here car is a prime example of what I strive to avoid for my customers, even though I'm just a one man show out of an old barn with a new addition. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night having fired all those parts at it ... and then to have SOMEONE ELSE tell me there's no compression in one hole ... MAN, I'd be beating myself up for months on that one. OUCH. Ego gut-punch. Thankfully I got burned on my own vehicles first, before I started doing this for others. Learned a thing or 2 in the school of hard knocks. Better to cost myself some money early - no better learning tool. :)

It's a sad story that gets repeated over and over again. Just pick a brand, then a popular model, and then find an internet forum on said model, and look around - there will be countless threads about how, "I spent $x, xxx.xx at the (insert dealer or private shop here) and the problem STILL HAPPENS! They replaced (insert LONG list of parts here) .... " I'm with you on getting people trained - that's the best way to change this industry .... but the other half of it is, how about automotive engineers think about US for once when designing some of these piles? That would be wonderful, and helpful towards getting people their vehicles repaired without bankrupting them.

Wish I had the funds to get real, live training, but I've learned quite a bit here on YouTube, and have been able to go out on my own 3 vehicles, or a customer's vehicle, to see these things work with my own eyes after having watched them on the computer here. Thank God for you guys! I struggled for YEARS - I had NO IDEA where to get this info, except to pay said manufacturer for it, which I knew wasn't the right path. I would have given up on cars 100% if not for all of you. Thank you again, Keith! 👍👍

That's so disappointing that these guys handled things this way. I had a Chevy Van last week where the customer's "buddy" had thrown a bunch of parts including a fuel pump at it to fix a high idle/rough run and transmission shifting problems. He told him any shop would've replaced the pump at that point. Ended up being an intermittent open in the t.p.s. ground circuit. Felt bad for the guy spending all that money for nothing. Great video as always sir!

You always try to do what's best for the customer and it shows. Even as a DIY'er I can see the value in training. Of course the level of training will be different for me, but I can tell you my local mechanics don't stay up on the technology. Instead, they rely on past experience and change parts. You know my story, I've been charged too many times for a part that didn't fix the problem and I got tired of it. I know my limitations but I have taken this stuff seriously. I have learned so much from you and the guys you mentioned and I'm better of for it.

Keith that's why I follow Yourself, Eric O, Paul Danner, and Ivan. I truly appreciate your honesty. As a retired aircraft mechanic, I would hate to see someone to just throw parts at an aircraft someone was going to fly. Wish you guys were closer. Here on L.I. GOOD Honest mechanics are hard to come by. That's why I am investing in the tools and doing the repairs myself. Thanks much for all the time and money you guys invest in making these videos. ❤️️

Wow! I feel terrible if I make a bad call on a part. Makes me wonder about some people! I do quite a bit of work for folks on small fixed incomes so I do my absolute best to be right everytime. Kind of comes back to not what you know but what you understand.... And being honest! Great share man! 👍

Keith! How can you forget Ivan in that list? Lol! Just kidding bro! We are all so lucky to have all of you, taking your time and feeding us this knowledge. Donating money you make to hospitals like Shriners and St Jude. You all are the real icons in this industry. Please tell Rocco I was asking for him. Every day is a good day.

This is a conversation you and I have had a few times already. Techs that refuse to go to training, managers that won't provide/send their guy/gals for training and/or let the tech do what they need to do in order to get the proper diag without pressuring them to launch the part/s. Together we'll make it better.

I see it all the time. It blows my mind how some shops still operate. I went to a shop and seen 2 other owners trying to help fix a no brake light issue. The whole car was apart even the front seat was out. I pulled up a wire diagram and the system was really basic. I said check power on fuse 42 he told me no fuse or terminals to connect a fuse (they was kinda blowing me off). I said remove the box because something isn't right. 1 min later he said I fixed it. I asked what it was because they wouldn't let me take a wack at it. He kinda ignored me. I asked again he finally said fuse 42 was missing I didn't see the terminals. I found out they had 2 days and a bcm new harness for the rear bulbs brake pedal switch . I have about 8 story's that I'll never forget because of how crazy expensive it got and it ended up being something basic (power ground fuse or connector). I'm sure Keith has 100s. I'm still new to it and loving to learn everyday.

Yep not hard to see. So sad for the customer. This makes the Pico so worth it. Thanks Keith! Any training I have had has been worth every penny I paid to go to it!

Unfortunately is how a lot of places work... The diagnostic process can take time, (however not in this case...), and shops want the easy and quick money...
So they throw parts at it in the hope that will fix it... and because they will always charge the customer, is not really a loss for them...
Sometimes is not even that or the other test... is know how to proceed!
Great work as always...
I like this quick videos you do... I was to do a series of similar ones, for the repairs I don't record... but we already have you!
👍👍👍👍👍

Even I feel bad for the customer. Jesus christ. If I can save the customer a couple bucks I'll go the extra mile. Very against throwing parts at a car if I dont have the proof in front of me. Job well done Keith. Thanx for sharing
