You need to start benching with an arch. Keeping your back flat not only shifts the work to your shoulders, but it also places them in a dangerous position as the head of the shoulder joint rises upward which tends to cause your elbows to flare out. To prevent this, simply tighten your upper back by retracting your scapula and squeezing your shoulder blades together so that you can puff out your chest and isolate your pecs. This is what creates the arch and it doesn’t have to be anything excessive, just enough so that you eliminate any unnecessary shoulder involvement. This will help you to bench heavier while also greatly reducing the risk of injury.

Remember... Don't over lift in the beginning. Protect your rotator cuffs. Do lots of shoulder workouts covering all 4 major muscle heads/tendons to strengthen and provide better support and stability. Love your videos. Thanks bro.

You dont need that king of arch. Your back will form an arch naturally.

Everyone is different. You bench how YOU feel comfortable. Some of these videos can cause injuries.

benching without an arch is benefitial if you can drop ur ego and lift lighter, with better form. Arching your back is taken from powerlifters who do it to shorten the bar path to make the lift easier.... if you want the most gains. dont use an arch more than your fist, make sure that you keep elbows tucked and only retract scapula on the way down slightly... you can push through your shoulders on the eccentric just dont round your back

I remember my very first time in the gym. My friend told me to bench press without any plates (I was skinny back then). Since there were a lot of people, I felt like that was embarassing. I told him to put at least the lightest plates. The barbell looked like there are donuts hanging on each side. 🤣

I then told my friend to just temove it and that the bar is enough for me. It looks way better. 😆
