I myself live in the American state of Minnesota. While it’s not common in cities, small towns will often be closed on Sundays. They were settled by German and Scandinavian Lutherans after all back in the good ol days.

We had this in NY at one time. It ended in the 70s. I remember when I was a kid how peaceful it was. Only a few small stores were open to sell the Sunday newspaper.

Here in Spain stores close on Sundays aswell, fortunately some large supermarkets are open for people who forget to buy things on Saturday.

After having lived in Germany for years, I really appreciate the calm and quiet of Sundays.

When I was a kid like 60 years ago everything was closed on Sundays and this was in LA. We were thrilled when stores started opening on Sunday. Looking back now I see that was a big mistake.

Surprised me too, until you learn that most hauptbahnhofs shops have open all week and small bakeries and kiosks too

Where I'm from, on Sundays all major roads inside the city are closed. The roads are used for Jogging, Running, Cycling, or just working out in general, it really helps people staying in shape and healthy.

Yeah, I live in France.
People I know get pissed if they’re asked to do something on a Sunday (unless important of course).
If it’s not important the default answer usually is “then it can wait for Monday”

Back in the 1970's (not that long ago) Grocery stores in the USA would be closed on Sundays along with pretty much everything else.

I’m Mexican and studied in Germany for a few months. Sundays gave me so much anxiety because in México, I’m used to going to the shops on Sunday, when I’m free from work or my studies. So I just sat there on a Sunday, doing nothing, just being anxious out of custom hahaha

It used to be like that in Finland too. It definitely made Sundays stand out more than now.

Growing up in America, stores were closed in Sunday. It was called the Blue Law. As an adult, we moved to a small city in my southern state; even in the 1980’s-early 1990’s, a lot of stores stayed closed on Sunday.

Sundays are for Worship.
Glad Germany retains the Tradition. 🇩🇪

En España también cierran los domingos y muchas veces las tardes de los sábados.
