You'll need the 2€ when you go to a public toilet.

"Oh nein Scheiße" hit me different

I had a German friend who had to take a trip to another city. For days she was telling me how boring it would be and how she hates driving long distances on her own. In the end, I offered to accompany her, literally sacrificing my day off not to see her unhappy. When we came back, she actually asked me for half the gas cost. Did that settle in? Now hear this: I also bought coffee, pretzels and pastries for both of us during the trip. Btw I'm Greek. Needless to say we are not friends anymore.

In Indonesia we also split the bill like that. You pay what you eat and it’s very reasonable

Meanwhile in the Middle East we fight to pay the bill 😂

In France we would have paid 19€ each, we tend to split equally with a big smile and complain only when not together anymore 😂

Prcedure to pay the bill In Turkey: when the bill arrives at the table, you have to be very quick to grab the bill, otherwise, you need to fight to grab and pay the bill. The waitress can call the police or an ambulance to calm down you. If you hesitate to fight you can loose your credibility and people call you stingy. So It is a serious issue to pay the bill first in Turkey.

In Taiwan, we compete to pay for our friends.

It might sound stingy to others but as a German I believe it's way better. The main reason for me is that I can join my friends in the restaurant although I don't have much money (and also do not have to feel bad that someone else has to pay for me). There is usually a dish on the menu which is far cheaper, as are drinks (for alcohol usually beer). And it's not about a 2€ difference but can be easily a difference of 20-40€ (which can be a lot of money for some).

The way Germans split.bill is the right way. I'm not German, I'm Asian, and I hate it when I happened to hang out with group of people who prefer to split bill evenly. I usually avoided people like that. The correct split bill is 'I pay what I ordered & ate'. If you want to split the bill evenly, then you are.tonshare everything you ordered with your friends, not eating it on your own.

The most obnoxious is the friend who drinks all the beer and asks you to pay half.
You want me to pay half that check? You better check yourself 😂😅😂

In Croatia we find that very disturbing....

As a Portuguese me and my friends only pay for what we had, nothing more, unless someone offers to pay for the other.
We have a saying that describes this perfectly: Friends, but business aside

In my country we do the same, but I didn't know that in Italy they split it and I went out once for a birthday and bought myself just water, while everyone else was buying sophisticated meals. I ended up paying 30€, that's not fair, I don't care how good or not friends are we. It's just stupid

I'm from Mexico and in my experience, that's also how it is here. Sometimes when you just met someone, or are seeing a friend after a long time you or them offer to pay the whole bill, but otherwise, everyone pays their part. Yes, it's awkward, but it's also common to ask for separate bills when going out

For the ones who haven’t been or lived in Germany, they are not that tight 😅. Actually German people are very nice and kind, at least I felt so during my three years living there. They do often make it clear when it comes to money but I now feel so normal about that 😂, just the right thing to do 😂

In the US you can ask for separate bills for each person.

I was surprised when my german friend invited me and asked me to split the bill, and then i paid my bill 😅 in Ethiopia if you invite someone you have to pay complete bill

The way they split their bill is still elegant, but electronic systems may be better for such cases.
