It's pretty simple. For all VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda engines:

Diesel engines without DPF - 5W30 / 5W40 - VW504/VW505/VW507
Diesel engines with PD & DPF - 5W30/5W40 - VW504 / VW505.01 / VW507
Diesel engines with DPF - 5W30 - VW504/VW507
Special Diesel engines - VW506 (V10 TDI)

Gasoline engines NA (No turbo) - 0W30 / 0W40 / 5W40 / 10W40 / 10W60 - VW502/VW505
Gasoline engines with Turbocharging/Supercharging - 5W30 / 0W40 / 0W30 / 10W60- VW502/505/504/507
Sport gasoline engines (aggresive driving) - 0W40 / 10W60 - VW502/VW505 (No long life)
Long life (casual or no sport driving or race tracking) - 5W30 - VW504/507

The best all around oil for gasoline (fuel economy / performance / protection) = 0W40 with no Long Life interval. For Diesel engines, 0W30 /5W30 with Long Life.

5 = cold viscosity
W = Winter
30 = hot viscosity

Extremely cold areas = 0W20 / 0W30 / 0W40 oil is recommended.

Trusted oil brands:

Castrol
Motul
Mobil 1
Liqui Molly
OEM Audi/VW

For some reason this video comes up in 2021 for VW 504. The info here is not what Audi owner’s manuals say for their 1.6 TFSI engines from 2015 onwards. The VW spec for petrol/gasoline turbos is VW 502 00 for fixed interval oil change and VW 504 00 for flexible//longlife oil change. Audi diesels are to use 507 00.

Liqui-Moly is good oil, but I noticed the engine tends to really work at higher speeds.
Switched to Castrol Edge and it gets to um, aerodynamically challenging velocity effortlessly. And doesn't struggle to stay there. Pricier but outstanding oil.

You can also use VW507 in PD engines with DPF. VW507/504 are low saps oils and it is recomended for all vehicles with DPF. However, low saps oils has less engine protection, but it is better for catalytic converters, less sludge.... If you have PD without DPF, it is better to use 5W40 with VW505.01 (which is recomended by VW).
For EA888 TSI petrol engines VAG recomendation is VW502/VW504.

I live in Canada and use Castrol Edge 5W-30 (507 00): it is perfect, permits a smooth run, and the engine only burns less than 1/2 L oil for 15 000 km (Interval oil change)

Revise the video. 504.00 is a gasoline engine specification. You can use a 504.00 spec oil in a diesel because 504.00 is dual specification with 507.00 in VW engine oil products. 507.00 is a PD engine specification.

I live in the Trinidad, the Caribbean where it is always very hot 35C. I have a 10yr old Audi Q5 2.0cc turbo gas engine. What oil do you recommend to use? at present I use LiquiMoly 5w-40 and the oil evaporates in the engine.

You're wrong,
The VW 504 00 specification is also for petrol engines, so the first oil in the video Castrol edge long life 5w30 can also be used in gasoline cars.
In my car book I write that I can use the following oil specifications:
1. LongLife-Service VW 503 00 / VW 504 00
2. NON-LongLife-Service VW 500 00, VW 501 01 sau VW 502 00
I HAVE GOLF 5 1.6 GASOLINE.

Great info and post and thanks for posting, anyone can write comments and critique but it takes someone with knowledge and testicles to post good info like this.

Quoted from oilspecifications,

VW 503.00
Long-life gasoline engine oil for VW cars with WIV (system for longer service intervals). Also meets ACEA A1, SAE 0W-30 or 5W-30 specification.

VW 503.01
This specification is specifically for Audi RS4, Audi TT, S3 and Audi A8 6.0 V12 models with outputs of more than 180bhp, running with variable service intervals (30, 000km or 2 years). Now superceeded by the VW 504.00 specification.

VW 504.00
The VW 504 00 specification superceedes the VW 503 00 and VW 503.01 specifications. VW 504 00 oils are suitable for engines meeting the demands of Euro IV emissions standards.

VW 507.00
Low SAPS oils suitable for Euro 4 engines and almost all VAG diesel engines from 2000 onwards with extended service intervals, unitary injector pumps and also Pumpe-Düse ("PD") engines. Excludes V10, R5 engines and VW Commercial vehicles without fitted DPF (diesel particulate filters) – these must use a 506 01 specification oil.

VW504.00/507.00, available 0w30 or 5w30

Good video. Clearly explained. For East Europe, Balkans and Russia do not use Castrol, Shell, because it is maybe 2.class quality made for East or maybe it is a copy...but, any brand will be good that has an official approval for eq 504/507, 502/505.01 etc...there are many options: Rowe, Ravenol, Repsol, Eni, Liqui Moly, Havoline, mighty Wolf-pure players and great brand, Kroon Oil, Total Ineo...or regional smaller brands such as Mol, Ina, Optima, Prista, Lotos, Orlen, Mogul-factory oil for Škoda...half of the price than a "big brands" and for 10-15k km oil change quite good...

Hi,
I have an Audi A6 '13 3.0 TDI with 230k km.
I am between Castrol and Liqui Moly (5w-30 or 5w-40).
Which brand shouls I go for and what viscosity?

WinzeeTutorials

There's a few factual errors in the video. 504.00 for instance is a gasoline specification engine oil. VW and a lot of the engine oil brand websites quote specifications and oil grades for all VW engines so a few minutes research will tell you which oil you need.

10W60 does not have the Vw502 approval. 1.8 TFSI requires Vw502 or Vw504. I have oil consumption issue. Currently using liqui moly 4200 c3 5w30. Will swithcing to Shell 0w40 (a3b4) Castrol Edge 5w40 (c3) be better or Motul Xmax 0w40 (a3b4) or Motul Xcess 5w40 (a3b4) or Mobil FS 0w40 (a3b4) ? Those are my options Shell is the most expensive option. Shell and Castrol are the safest as I will be able to get them from petrol stations so they will not be fake. Mobil and Motul's genuinity is a big question mark for me as I can not find them from petrol stations, and cant be sure about the ones from auth. sellers when we all know that even distributors sell fakes. From all of this which one would you recommend?
