As someone who has worked in an auto store and spent a lot of time thinking about oil and done an engineering degree. This was the most useful video which made the most sense and was the most concise. Give this guy a medal.

Scotty reminds me of my old shade-tree mechanic, Joe. Wore the same uniform w/some visible chest, same hair, humor, passion & honesty. Superb work, reasonable price. Dying breeds, due to automation & factory changes.

Thank you for this video.... I went to change my oil and was being pushed to switch to synthetic oil. But I have a 2003 jeep liberty with almost 200, 000 miles. Ive been using the same conventional oil and only had problems when my valve cover gasket needed replacing. Now with that fixed I'm not burning through oil like I use too. Like my grandpa said "if its not broke, dont fix it" I purchased my jeep in 2012 and have done all of my own oil changes myself. Ive never had any problems nor do I want to start messing up my engine because someone is trying to up sale me... I love your energy and information you put out there. Thank you

Valvoline full synthetic. never had a problem and after the last time I disassembled my engine (not because of the oil), everything was still in great shape.

20, 000 mile oil change ?!!! Folks...oil and filters are just too cheap. Motors aren't.

3:15 I'm a trucker, and my company has us change our oil about every 25, 000 miles. Driven about 75, 000 miles this year, no engine problems so far.

Scotty confirms what I've been doing for 20 years, buy the cheapest synthetic oil (with the right specs) and change once a year as our cars don't drive much.
Never had any issues.

For my current vehicle, I used 10w40 conventional oil for summer. For winter, I use 10w30 conventional. After 250, 000 miles, I started using 15w40 conventional oil for summer. For winter, I stayed at 10w30 conventional oil. Oil changes are done every 3000 miles and I do it myself. Never trust a, "professional, " to do it right.

I just found this STP synthetic at my local auto parts store. About 40% less than the synthetic brands I normally purchase. I am going to try it out.

Scotty, your advice on the PCV valve in my Murano was bang on, it was clean, but worn out and stuck and it had high blow by, after i changed it, no blow by out the filler cap was evident, and the oil leakage stopped.

I'd never go 10, 000 miles between oil changes. That's crazy.

Thank you Scotty. I changed my own oil in my vw(mobile one FS) and I went past the 8 thousand mile. I was freaking out thinking my car was gonna die but now I know I can push it a bit further. I love doing oil changes on my car. Super easy on this 07 Jetta.
