I highly doubt your engine will get destroyed if you used any of these oils. All the major oil brands meet the specs in general. Even conventional oil today is much better than 30 years ago.

Use any oil as long as you change it frequently. End of story.

If a particular brand of oil was the culprit of premature engine failure across the country that company would be sued completely out of existence.

Been using grade of 5-40 synthetic engine oil ( Mobil, Castrol ) for almost 20 years since I was 18 years old to all my 2 little cars both TTQ and R53 Cooper S without any issue - It’s running like a champion though till today

I've used Mobil1 full synthetics in all of my Vehicles. I owned 1988 Pontiac Bonneville, 1968 Ford F100 Camper special, 2000 Grand am, 1984 Mercury Grand Marquis, 1992 Mercury Tracer, 2005 Ford Freestar, 1996 GMC Safari, 2001 Ford Focus, 2007 Hyundai Santa fe, 2010 Ford Explorer, 2012 Dodge Charger. I can say out of all of these vehicles we never had Mechanical engine issues of any sort related to the oil we used. Mobil1 IMO is one of the best oils I have ever used in my life.

When you look at a bottle of GF-6 oil, you might notice an “A” or “B” listed after the GF-6. GF-6A lubricants being backward compatible means that GF-6A engine oils that are “legacy” viscosity grades covered under GF-5. GF-6A oils can be used in older vehicles that call for GF-1 to GF-5. This means GF-6 covers most vehicles made after 1992.

The new GF-6B specifications are for new lighter weight multi-viscosity oils used by more modern vehicles. These oils are not backward compatible because of the new viscosity grades. GF-6B engine oils should only be used when recommended by the OEM (follow the owner’s manual). 0W8 is another planned viscosity that will be in the GF-6B category

I’ll never stop using Mobil 1….sorry. Probably the #1 best oil there is and I’ve never had any issues with it.

Spoiler alert: your engine will be fine running any synthetic on the market and change at a reasonable interval

So I am confused. One second you say that the mobil 1 extended life does not have it but next sentence you said all the Mobil 1 you checked had the And your thumbnail pointing directly at the mobil 1 and clearly stating do not use??? Wow, I can hear the Mobil 1 lawyers talking now

First you Mobil1 did not have the certifications and the you said they all did?

You were checking right after the switch to API-SP oil. It takes time for old stock to be sold and used. I for one have two 5 quart containers one of Mobil 1 Annual Protection SN, and one of Mobil 1 Extended Protection SN. Still using those up before making the switch. I don’t have a GDI, but the timing chain will just have to deal with it…. Not too worried about it honestly.

Ideally, the topic is “don’t use cooking oil” for your car, just right.

At my local Walmart, almost all the oil brands have transitioned to API SP and ILSAC GF-6A. I would not hesitate to use any of them 😉

I have been using Mobil 1 in all my cars, never had a problem related to the oil itself.

Dexos gen 2 is synthetic only. Every vehicle I know of is recommended to use conventional oil during the break in period. The Gen 2 is generally more expensive, and is top of the line just to meet certification criteria. If an engine truly needs it, then it should be specified clearly. Direct injected engine have been doing fine without it, albeit with special care.
