The use of the Valvoline conventional motor oil is to illustrate the benefits of that synthetic engine oil has over conventional motor oil. Why buy a conventional motor oil when you can purchase a synthetic motor oil which will outperform conventional oil for around the same price or a little more? The three tests outlined in the video include tests for viscosity at varying temperatures, film strength, and evaporative testing. As a science teacher, I think this would make a great set of experiments for an auto shop class. So much covered here with controls (which were great), looking at claims, data, data analysis, dispelling brand worship (tribalism) & avoiding bias. Solid stuff. I think I'm going to write this up as a set of labs and give it to my auto shop teacher as it (and this channel in sum) really shows not only the practical purpose of science and its method, but also highlights the inherent cross-curricular application of teaching it.

Great video. Your test procedures are easily understood by the average folks. I remember your Walmart and Costco synthetic oil test its proof a person can save money by buying brands that can perform as well as the more expensive sive brands. Thanks for the info.

Just a suggestion: Use the same oil as a control to see the precision of your testing. So instead of 3 cups, have for example 4, whereas 2 with the same oil. With this little extra work, you can measure how precise your testing is. If there is a significant difference between the same oil, your test has more variability than the different oils, biasing the results.
