A question I often get asked is: how do you juggle so many different types of training at once? How do you track your progress when you’re training so sporadically?

The answer is multi-facetted. First of all: I’m not actually *that* concerned with making rapid progress. I like to progress, of course, but I’m in no rush. With my attention divided, I do progress more slowly. But that’s just more fun for me, and the benefits I get from training this way make it more than worth it.

At the same time, a lot of what I’m trying to improve is skills-based. That means things like handstand push ups, jump rope, martial arts, pistol squats, shield cast, etc.

This kind of training is relatively low-intensity when it comes to recovery. You can use spaced learning and greasing the groove and fit that around the rest of your training. It’s easy to see if you’re progressing because you will find the skill easier and make fewer mistakes. Film it and watch yourself back for added credit!

And even if you only train skills once a week, you can still make some decent progress. As long as you’re being conscious of your training and working on your form.

Seeing as this offers some strength work and cardio as a by-product, you actually don’t need to do that much extra to build and maintain decent muscle and strength. Throw a bodybuilding/strength training session or two in each week and you’re golden. Don’t fret the details.

Does this really work? Well, I think I’ve managed to make progress in a few key areas. Check the video and see if you agree :-)

What are you guys working on right now?

The most important part of this video to me is that it took 16+ years to build your physique and skills.
I started working with intention in 2021. Sometimes I feel a lack of progress but I’ve gotten stronger, thicker, hurt less, better rom in addition to an ability to lift my 35+lbs toddler with one arm. I can carry my wife on my back. These are things I couldn’t have done without training.
Not all gains are visible. So good. ❤

I’m 50 this year, and no oil painting. All my training and nutrition is geared towards improving my ability to do multi-day hikes. Stamina in the hills is more important to me than looking in the mirror. I like how you are discussing these ideas in your recent videos

I really like this approach to training. You decide what you want to do, and you do it for your own reasons, because it's fun and it makes you feel good. That's the best reason to do anything.

I feel so cheesy and nerdy saying this, but I've loved your content for a good few years now and you're always inspiring, comforting and interesting. It's not often you get wholesome/video game/fitness cross overs. Na Zdrowie!

I honestly needed this to remind me that I am still moving forward thank you. There have been moments where I thought I wasn’t gaining but there were also moments where I see some changes even if I accidentally work out twice a week I have noticed I still have some gains and still have more work to do

I'd love a video or a book where you show and create more modular trainings and not only those from your funciontal program, because there has to be more things to train and I'm interested. Thank you for all your work!

I think your approach to fitness is similar to Steve Kauffman's approach to learn languages... "It could be done consistently only if it is fun to you", and that approach is great!

You can make a lot of progress by having fun while you practice a skill.

Thank you for your video Adam, you showed us that it is a good approach!❤

I truly believe that you must walk many paths in order to reach your goals...diversify your training..open your mind to other methods to develop what works for you

Love the message of this video so wasn't going to comment this until you said you appreciate viewer feedback and you're trying to improve your form: You're telling too much, and consistently. When you do the jab cross, you have a little anticipating stutter with your feet before your left hand goes out that says you're thinking of jabbing. When you're throwing the right straight by itself, you pump your left shoulder out just a little before the right hand comes out. Not far enough to where I would think you were practicing feinting but to think it's just your tell when throwing the right. You did it every time so even if someone doesn't anticipate it they'll read it eventually.

Easy to work on solutions, when throwing that jab be aware of your feet, make sure your lead foot isn't stepping if you're not throwing or feinting. When throwing the right, be aware of your shoulders and focus on pulling the left shoulder back as soon as the right shoulder goes out, be cognizant so it doesn't move on its own before your punch is out.

I saw you kicking so I'll also say stop dropping the left arm when you throw the cross. Visualize that your hands have a single fishing line tied to them, that loops around the back of your head. When the right goes out, that fishing line pulls your left hand back to your eyebrow. I say this because in muay thai dropping the left when shooting the right is a great way to eat a shin bone, the length and power of a roundhouse compared to that of your cross is not a fair trade, even with you tossing the bag like it's a paperweight.

I don't track progress or count reps. I exercise to the point that I'm to tired to continue and my muscles are sore. I see my progress in my capabilities and in looking in the mirror. I do make sure I get symmetry in my routines although its not exact.
