If you think 8-9 glasses of water is too much for you, than you're probably getting your thirst signals mixed up with your hunger ones. The next time you think you're hungry choose to drink water instead of eating. If you still get hunger pangs after that than eat something. You'll be surprised how much water you'll actually drink in a day after adapting to this system... I certainly was.
Edit: I must've been very tired when posting this. I failed to explain this practice is meant for a physical labor job, being performed in the hot summer. Otherwise, 6-7 glasses should suffice.

Quick, I like quick. Thank you. I've been suffering this problem for about four years. Your solutions sound reasonable. Resisting the urge to go and certain foods cause me problems. But, no humor here, just on the outside chance something bigger is the problem, I've got a colonoscopy scheduled next month. I'm no Doctor, and I am not overly crazy about Doctors, but in this case might be a good idea to have one take a look.

Get black cherry juice I cup in a glass of water. Takes a few hours. No cramping gas etc. you just have to go. Works everytime.

Following stroke 5 years ago, my 64 year old body has this problem. Solution, well, I drink green tea, a lot of green tea. Weight is normal, no alcohol, that is tough. Walk every day, not tough!
However, it works.

joe charles I have ibs And diverticulosis . I try to eat wisely but at my age (82) I often fall by the wayside. I found that the most effective way to counter constipation was to stimulate peristalsis ie.Whilst sat on the toilet, relax. Put your hands palms together and with the rght hand encircle your left thumb .Using only the first 2nd and3rd fingers of the rt.hand. With the left thumbnail facing up, use the r underside of the right thumb to gently massage the left thumb from where it joins the hand towards the left thumbnail at thesame time using the 3 rh.fingers to gently squeeze the left thumb . Do these actions together at one second intervals. Sounds complicated ? It isn't .try it, It works!!!
