The real question to the adult child-- are you contributing, helping your parent or mooching?

I am 48, almost 49 and still live at home. I help my elderly parents around the house with chores and expenses. My parents are happy that I am living with them. It works for us.

I'm 22 years old, I denied the military and college. I decided to go into the workforce when I graduated, after 2 years I retired from retail and became an electrician. I was broke as hell for 3 years after I graduated and I still live with my aunt. I'm getting more money being in the trade than retail. It's mostly about the circumstances and not being a lazy piece of shit in some cases.

The problem was that he did not do jack shit or even help while living with he's parents.

I live with my parents, have a job and go to college. I live in one of the most expensive states (Hawaii). I help out my parents, they help me out in return. Personally I think these idiots are salty that we aren't buying real estate.

It depends. If everyone helps out financially and also around the house, and everyone gets along, it works well. They are right. Not all families are alike. The guy who does not pull his fair share in this video needs to start helping out his parents financially and around the house, or he does need to get a place of his own. Most people pitch in to help each other. Shame on the guy who mooches off his parents and does not help them.

I finally moved out of my mom's place at 27 but I've been financially helping her for 6 years. My biggest reason it took me so long move out wasnt because I couldn't afford it, it was because I was to afraid and not ready to take that leap

The American culture was taught to be more independent but what some ppl don’t realize is that independence comes with a price. I say just stack your money, help with bills and do a couples chores. Don’t be so quick to put yourself in debt trying to live the American Dream.

I live with my single mom, and pay all the bills, she cooks for me and I have a bed to sleep for myself. I'm very happy lol.

I think living with parents can be a great thing, only if you're going to help out.

If he made more of an effort they probably would've let him live there longer. I don't think the issue lies in the children living at home, rather, it's their conduct that matters. provide for the family and be conscientious of your actions because they affect everyone in the household. multigenerational living works in other cultures and has a lot of value. however, in America, we have strong beliefs about independence.

Unless you have rich parents, a stem degree, join the military, or become a famous somehow. You most likely will not be able to afford to live on your own. Even if you have a full time job. Rent is too damn high and houses cost too much and these corporations are not paying enough.

The idea of leaving our parents is scary . Iam from India and we cant think of leaving our parents. We earn and live with them. Lucky to be born in India. Three generations live together in our country and sometimes four too.

Answer: Until someone actually has the knowledge and confidence of getting your own place and being financially stable with a good paying job. Real estate is expensive people

My stance on this is damn why do people gotta be so rude. I only live with my mom because I don't want her to be homeless. I work and help with bills and everything but rent is too damn expensive nowadays to live by yourself

Young people live with their parents not because we want to but because we have to.I'm not a bum, I graduated from college with my undergrad and am working on applying for better paying jobs and applying for master's programs which I will likely stay at home with as well. Rent is too damn high where I live, California. I'd love to have the money to move out but between paying for college, rent and other bills there's no way I could make it. I think older adults have zero idea how tough it is for today's generation with rent, bills, and among other things college tuition. I'd ideally move out after finishing my master's degree assuming I get a good paying job but it makes no sense to be paying $2000 out the door for an apartment when I could be paying $1300 to my parents and still saving money. They get help in rent they wouldn't have gotten and I get a cheaper place to live.

I think it’s really annoying when the older generation looks down on the younger generation calling us “lazy” or “freeloader” and talk about how they move out at 18/19. First off this isn’t the 1950s/60s/70s/80s/90s. The economy is in worst shape than it’s ever been. The job market is struggling, the cost of living, college tuition, health care has increased at insane amounts, it’s becoming harder and harder for high school graduates to get decent paying jobs like back in the vintage era. Let’s not forget personal reasons such as mental illness. Disorders, unemployment etc.
