My nephew got an F on a math test where he got every single solution correct. All the answers were mathematically correct.
He failed because he didnt present the work "Properly according to the curriculum required". I was the one who went in to talk because I have a math degree.
"Math has no feelings, no perceptions, and no wrong roads to the right answer, to which there can only be one. 2+2=4. Not 5 or 3. If he answers 4 its right regardless of how he got there because 4 is the correct answer."
They actually tried to argue against that. I was flabbergasted. "with all due respect sir, math has changed since you got your degree." Huh? "2+2 is still 4 right?" Then "Yes, but..."
I didn't let her finish. I asked if all the answers were correct again. "yes." Then hes getting an A+ right?"
It took an hour, threatening to go to the local news and forcing the teacher to do one of the problems selected randomly by me using CCM. She couldn't do it. Magically, he got the A+.
These people are insane. She actually tried to argue the racial inequity of math. I pointed out that modern math was invented by The Chinese, perfected by the Arabs and instituted by the Caucasian. She just stared.
We transferred him. Hes much happier now. They're intentionally retarding our children.

Story problems are supposed to accomplish two things. Problem solving by establishing the information that is a priority and demonstrate the ability to do the computations.

It had to be a woman who hated math they came up with ' Common Core Math'. I was good in math class but mostly every girl in my class sucked at math. Fact.

Common core isn't. And if the kids don't show the common core steps then it's wrong. Kind of like you want to go from New York to Chicago. First fly to Miami then to St. Louis then to LA then to Seattle then to Las Vegas then to Atlanta and possibly Chicago. I may have missed a few stops and airline changes.

Common Core requires normal math with efficient methods but also adapts fit situations like mental math & counting change and visualize problems and understand concepts to produce intelligent problem solvers!
Why do you reject ways that other countries use that make U.S. look weak?
Do you also complain about Sesame St counting sheep to learn numbers?
Reagan found U.S. trained generations of mindless human calculators easily stressed by simple word problems instead of flexible thinking problem solvers!

Sad. And even worse is many, many kids these days can't even write. Most can't read an analog clock on the wall. They can freakishly fire off endless texts on their phones, but they sweat bullets when asked to actually WRITE with a pen and paper directions to the nearest 7-Eleven.
