Can someone point out in this video where they explain CC or are they just hating something without actually seeing it in applications? I’ve seen the process and it sounds like many peoples thought process of math problems. I’m used to breaking down numbers into multiples of 10’s and 5’s so that I can add them together easier. 8+7 is the same as 10+5. Also with CC you’re writing out that thought process. Makes sense to me even though I grew up learning a different way just like everyone else. We should be encouraging students to take multiple perspectives on learning rather than forcing everyone to learn a singular uniform process.

3:06 I would argue from a student’s standpoint that we would not want to read the “great literature” anyway. Never mind the new CC stuff, literature as a whole is unappealing to students. I never took CC English...I’m sure it’s as awful as everyone says it is. But the “old” English was not exceptionally exciting by any means.

I taught CC math and it wasn’t all bad. There were a few things about it I was ok with it & it helped with some math skills. The problem was is that when it came to testing the process was more important than the answer. Not all kids arrive to the answer with the same process.

Try looking at the validation committee again Milgram is a pure math researcher. Kilpatrick is a math education researcher who DID sign on to cc.

Im trying to understand the substance of common core math.

This is the 7th video I've watched abd still I haven't seen ir heard anything of substance aside from general vagaries supporting it and other people saying how much they dislike it.

But I'm not finding anything of substance on the subject.
