This is idiotic. I'm so glad that my wife and I are able to keep our 8 year old out of this dysfunctional federal education agenda. My child doesn't even have to write to solve 43-13, she just looks at it and says 30. She's sitting right beside me now, says that this is the dumbest thing that she has ever seen. I have to agree.

The sad thing is is that it is nation wide, this is what they are teaching our kids. Something needs to change

Is this a joke? Are you kidding me that you have to go through all those steps for just a simple equation? I'm glad I'm in college don't have to do that shit.

At which grade level do the children begin to learn normal math?

I imagine that the common core techniques would eventually become one hundred percent useless and wastes of time in higher levels of math, like in high school.

I've been a private tutor since 1994. The way they teach math in public schools gets stupider year by year.

This is a very sad day in the teaching world, I believe all teachers, administrators and anyone in the teaching profession at the elementary level need to go back to school.
