One of the things I have been pondering while swimming laps, is how far are you supposed to extend. I to like to stretch the shoulders forward as far as I can, but if I over extend, then that can actually put some curve in my upper body, but figured that if my body line was straight, then I am not over extending. It does seem that sprinters don't extend as far as distance swimmers. Kind of the same with shoulder rotation, there doesn't seem to be as much shoulder rotation for the 50 meter sprinters as there is with distance swimmers.

Oh, straight arm pull and straight arm recover can put a lot of stress on your shoulders...

Thank you! I always keep a high elbow and low fore arm / hand (during recovery) and try fingers first on entry and maximal arm extension in front of the shoulder to maximize hydrodynamic position to cut trough water minimizing drag. But I always end up with shoulder pain if I train with high intensity for a couple of days in a row.
I like your rapid inhale and head down timed with hand entry for fast alignment btw !

Hi CM, No problems so far, pre-swim stretching and arm rotations help me. I concentrate on relaxing as you advise for less stress. Thanks 🏊🏽‍♂️

Before I watched I was like “no way that’s me.” After watching I need to go check myself again at the pool 👀 great insight and awareness, thanks!

Wow, the timing of this video is just amazing!

I definitely think I am reaching too far forward (although then directing the hand down) and my shoulder area and muscles are quite tight. Just recently had some good physio that helped and started extending the pre training stretching, which makes a difference!

Relaxed and light - that's a beautiful take away from this video, I'll mentally focus on this later at the pool!

I used to show up my face way too high, and I improved this shoulder rotation 4 months ago, and it's keeping me out of shoulder pain!

I enjoy and appreciate how-to videos, however, we can view them for various tips on swimming, but we must develop techniques that best serves us for us, bottom line, end of story. For example, my instructor stresses kicking a lot while swimming and keeping fingers together, this for swimmer swims effortlessly without doing either.🤷🏽‍♀️
