“your label is allowed to change” this was super great to hear as a young queer person :) im figuring out my validity as a person and a label that works for me and this was really nice to hear :) thanks

“Are you straight or gay?”
“I’m odd.”

That’s my own reason for going with queer lol

Queer is also just an umbrella term for someone who falls under the LGBTQ+ label! It is often used to mean genderqueer, but can also mean things like sexuality

I identify as queer because figuring things out in detail is mind melting. I just know i am the way i am and dont feel the need to look deeper? But im not out to my parents, since my mum still strongly believes that queer is a bad word. When i say it in passing she just goes 'oh, dont use that awful word.' I get that in her generation it wasnt used nicely, but things change 🫡

It's not my trauma.

It takes a lot to say that, and it's so meaningful, to put a stop on a train of generational thought and trauma that you won't inherit. It's so meaningful, I didn't realize I needed to hear someone being like that

Feel the exact same way! Don’t like using gay cause i grew up in a world where it was used as something to be laughed at.
I never felt like it was „cool“ to be gay and others saw themselves as something better. (It was never really talked abt in media and if it was, it was something to make fun of a lot of the time.) I turned out never identifying with the term because of it.

Goes to say: the trauma you faced and the way terms are used in you surroundings effect how you perceive them and how you feel like using them later in life.

My moms preferred queer because of the common protest chant: "We're here, we're queer! Get used to it!"

And it kinda just stuck with all us kids. So even our cis het sibs are queer because they are aggressive allies and wear whatever they want because clothes have no gender so people often assume they're not cis or het. I wanna say they only correct that notion when someone is the same gender asks them out. It's adorable because they're always so flattered. My brother once sighed and said he wished he was gay because the guy that asked him out was a new kid in the area that he'd already considered a great friend. But he just didn't think of him like that and whined that is that friend was a girl, he'd probably be drooling over a 'chick that was into all the same things he was' the way his buddy was.

They're still friends btw

A part of me hopes that one day we'll have a society where people can be like (example)

Cisgender male just gets a boyfriend and introduces him to friends & family without "coming out" or "labels" because no one expected him to like women just because he's male.

This would go all ways for all identities, but things would be a lot more casual & chill rather such a big deal as they are right now (obviously this is in an accepting society)

honestly sometimes I'm tired of all the labels and trying to explain to people a couple of labels i identify as, so I just say queer!! very queer 😭🙏

I felt the same about gay and it took a lot of work to unlearn that.

A beautiful human being saying what's what in the simplest way, I wish more people would just be chill regarding others' journeys

I love this, this is my thoughts exactly, label or don’t label urself as whatever u want and use whatever labels in whatever as long as they are correct and sincere usages in whatever way u want, I identify as queer to myself and to friends, but when i come out to people I generally say bisexual just because its a readily understandable term, still too much for my Christo-loony family to accept me but at least it was clear cut and explained just by the use of one word. Queer has been used as a word among others to insult me in my childhood originating community but me using it in a positive and voluntary way has disarmed it for me, i still get called a f-slur but i feel like that word is almost comically overused at this point that some of its potency has been lost through that.

Youre so real for this. Self education is very important and its okay to ask for help when you dont understand. Same for trauma- we understand bad things happen and you can ask us to tone down but don't get pissy with us for being a human being. :)

If you read this I hope you have/had a good day.

I'm queer,
let's be clear,
when I say the word queer,
I don't only mean eccatric or weird
and let me tell you all that I'm being sencire,
when I say that there's nothing wrong about being queer

i personally do not call myself gay due to growing up being bullied or even fetishized for it, but i DO use queer because it was a bit outdated by the time i got to middle school s it was never used against me! <3

I felt you saying that you didn’t want to identify as gay or bisexual so hard. When I was first figuring out who I was, there was immense pressure to pick one of those two labels. But queer is the best label for me, so thank you for making this video :)

This was a great explanation for ppl who need it i think!! Also loved the part where you said you don't have to have a label or it can change bc it's so true. And also true that no one NEEDS to know your sexuality unless you wanna share!! It's kinda nuts how entitled ppl on the internet can be when it comes to knowing things like that about strangers

This is something that definitely need to be heard by others!

So well said. When I was discovering myself there were none then few words/categories/ labels....I hated and still dislike labels.
Ask the younger generations are figuring themselves out and we have become a spectrum instead of a few slotted boxes I find that I understand myself better over time even though I've been an adult for a quarter of a century (damn😮).

Just keep on being your wonderful self❤❤❤
