I think there also needs to be a distinction between sex and gender. Sex means your physical, biological sex (chromosomes, hormones, sex organs). Gender, on the other hand, is your identity, how you identify/feel. Gender is a spectrum - men, women, non binary people.

Don't really watch this kind of stuff, but I think you deserve more dubs.

As a pan I'm tired of explaining that I'm not bisexual

I, personally, appreciate you taking a historical perspective on this and even going back to the etymology of words here. It's eye-opening. However, I do find it problematic that you went to the example of a 14-y-o girl with, presumably, not enough life experience to autonomously determine her own identity. Sounds a bit condescending as I heard it. Also, I think there is an important discussion piece regarding transgender and GNC people and how they fall into this system of words that seems to have been neglected in this video.

I do agree with the importance of words and labels in the real world and how they affect things like protections and finances. I find your videos to be stimulating and necessary, and I'm looking forward to your next post. I do think this video was remiss in certain areas.

Okay, but language is living and dynamic. I get being a stickler for definitions and grammar rules. I'm a self-proclaimed "language purist." But I take issue with people who stick so closely to exact definitions that they disregard the rights of individuals and groups to identify as they wish. Language is living. It can be reclaimed, redefined, and repurposed. To say that a group at large does not have the right to do this is foolish. I also reject the notion that labels must be specific. There are people like myself who, no matter how old they are, find that the specific labels currently available don't quite fit or feel restricting. We are not obligated to specifically define our orientation or gender according to rigid definitions, and some of us choose not to.

I use pan because I'm genderfluid, meaning the same and opposite game doesn't really work for me. Also, I wanted to be more clear about my interest in non binary genders. Also, the prefix pan- is more easily disconnected from the - sexual, because I am panromantic. Bi - as a prefix, is often implied to be bisexual. However, I do consider myself under the bisexual umbrella, which is important to me because of the history of bisexual acceptance (and lack thereof)
EDIT: I actually don't know where I stand romantically. I feel like emotional attraction or something should be a thing...

I don't like sexual labels. I'm me, what my sexual preference is shouldn't matter because I matter as a person. It should not matter what happens in my romantic relationships. That's my business and my spouses business no one else's. I don't need to flaunt it or shout what happen in my bedroom to the masses. I am more then what is between my thighs. I am a human being!

I thumbs downed this because of the title. Pansexual was not talked about in this video.

Info for geeks: I think it is from the greek root "ὁμός homόs" meaning "same" not latin maening "man" or "human"...

I am German and we don’t have the Word „queer“ but „quer“ and I can see how that is an actual well fitting word. For non German speakers: quer means something like „not straight“ (in a non sexual way. Like a weird non–straight Line, not aligning with others) and usually is the word „quer“ used for something that usually is OR supposed to be one way (like a straight forward line) but is and/or behaves like something else(e.g diagonal or non straight line), compared to others or working with others. Usually we would use the word as diagonal or vertical in Relation to something straight.

I always hated the word queer but now that I understand it It just fits me. I think that is the first time I have called myself queer instead of gay. I am not only attracted to men. I am a little more fluid than that and it isn't always sexual. I am something outside of what the normative likes to put in a box with a nice wrapper, But I HAVE NO NEED TO QUALIFY. I am not like everyone else in an box. And why should I deny that. Now why does any of this matter? Because I am different and I like my differences. I do not mind being similar but also different. It does kind of define me in a way that I relate more to.

I would have wished for a detailed difference between bi and pan. Think thats a tricky one, because the easy solution: loving two genders vs. loving people not genders (so allll people can be included) seems not to work for a lot of bisexuals

I believe Christian meant to say "subs", which would be an abbreviation of "subscribers.
