Your GFCI outlet installation is a DIY project, but what happens if your GFCI is not working or won’t reset? It could be an issue of line load reversal.

Thank you so much for this video! I purchased a new AF/GF Leviton outlet and couldn't get it to work and gave up. I couldn't push in the test didn't understand what was wrong because i thought i switched the wires from the old one to this new one exactly in the same spots but i guess not. It's been probably a month that my house didn't have 3 important outlets working in my kitchen. Two on the counter and the power for my island....I watched this video and saw how the line and load are supposed to be connected to the new outlet. Problem fixed! I truly hate working on anything with electricity but this led me to replace 4 worn outlets and covers to shiny new ones so I guess this issue was a good thing.
I've pulled and replaced engines, clutches, brake systems, fuel pumps.... almost everything on one of my cars and I'm building a classic mustang from a bare body and I'm comfortable with that stuff. Electrical with 120v and higher and I'm shaking in my boots 😅

This video solved my problem. Apparently the line and downline wires were installed in the reverse order by my contractor and for some reason worked fine for a couple of years until all of a sudden it didn't. The green light stayed on but it had no power and I couldn't flip the little test breaker. I figured it was the outlet and tried to put in a new one and then had the exact same problem. Then I found this video, reverse the wires and problem solved.

Thanks for the video! So... what is the light pattern in a normal, proper state?
EDIT: Okay, I just found out that SOLID GREEN with RESET pressed in, means proper, working (with ability to TEST).
SOLID GREEN with RESET popped out (no ability to TEST), means that the Line/Load are reversed!

It’s helpful to address plugged-in equipment (e.g., toaster) that might have a ground fault causing the GFCI to trip also preventing the GFCI from resetting.

I learned that solid red means there is a problem with the unit and it needs to be replaced.
