👉TO LOSE FAT, GAIN MUSCLE, AND BOOST YOUR METABOLISM AFTER 50, you need to understand the benefits of protein. Learn how much protein you need to preserve muscle when losing weight.

There are a few commonalities that I see a lot in the dietary habits of adults over 50. They don’t drink enough water, they don’t eat enough protein, healthy fat, or fiber, and they are getting too many processed carbohydrates and refined sugars.

If you just listened to that statement and thought, check, check, check, check, and check, Morgan is talking about my diet right now, this episode is for you!

This episode is also for people who have struggled with keeping weight off. One thing you can do to improve the odds that the weight you lose will stay off is to preserve your muscle mass when losing weight, this will keep your metabolism up! So that’s what we are talking about today.

Note: Reshape Physical Therapy and Wellness evolved into Weight Loss for Health, and finally Zivli. How to Lose Weight After 50 was our first course that eventually grew into Zivli. Some old blog posts or resources mentioned in this episode may have been removed.

I know you mentioned that we might see inches lost even if the scale doesn't move, so we should not worry. For someone overweight (I'm 225), I feel better after eating well and exercising for a long time, but when the scale doesn't move, I feel defeated because I know that I need to be a lower weight to not be obese. I don't know if that makes sense. Basically I plateau at an obese weight (being extremely consistent with food and exercise) and that makes me feel like nothing I do will help me reach my goal. Is it common for overweight people to have this issue? I thought we usually lose it quickly because we have so much to spare.

The Agoge Diet is truly something else, do not know why, but somehow it worked better than anything else I tried for increasing muscle.

I think protein pulses throughout the week are interesting as you can still get the muscle maintaining and building effects whilst also having the anti aging benefits of autophagy and reduced mTOR

I am a 6 foot, 316 lb male in his late 50s. I need to lose 125 lbs., to get out of morbid obesity. if I am just eating protein to drop weight, how much can I actually eat daily in order to make that happen safely? If I am burning about 1500-2000 calories a day, exercising, how much of clean proteins can I absorb to lose 1.5-2.0 lbs. a week? I have been searching for months, an appointment with a Nutritionist to determine this. I hear stories about people eating protein daily their weight in grams. Why would someone do this, if there were not going to be burning the amount of calories 316 grams of protein has?

Apparently I am way under for my protein intake, if I figured it correctly. I wonder if this is why I'm gaining and not losing anymore. It's hard as a vegetarian. I have two shakes a day (24g) and cottage cheese two times a day and I'm still no where near where I need to be. DANG!

It’s hard to reach eating that amount of protein… I don’t have a huge appetite but still gained weight. I only don’t put on weight by not eating carbohydrates or very low. I don’t feel hungry early in the day at all, I sometimes each lunch if I’m hungry and eat dinner .. so all that protein in meal is difficult. I’ve added sone protein supplements to try drink during the day.

I am a pure vegetarian under calorie deficit for fatloss, so I lose muscle mass also along with fat.
From food I can't have more than 30-35 gms of protein.
So can I have 3 protein shakes whey in a day (one scoop at one time)
So I can get approx 110 gms protein a day (food plus wheys)...
Are 3 shakes dangerous?

I tried to make my own diet, but it didn't work. I went to Agoge diet and let them create diet plan for me. I am delighted with the result...

The hardest part about building muscle is having a good diet. That was my main problem until I found the Agoge Diet plan. Now I'm gaining more muscle than ever.
