Being of Inuit Culture, I have an adult Alaskan Malamute (Mahalamut), he is six years old. We inuits have a specific way of training this particular breed. Now!.. I have invested in a rescue puppy. She is Dane/Lab. A completely 360 degree circle than training a Mal'! Anyhow, your channel is by every mean assisting me in doing my research in order to bring "Ellie", Dane/ Lab to become an excellent friend. I do apply some of my own training as I have done with my Mal. And by the way? "Ellie" is bilingual, as she understands my inuit language. Thanks guys.

Personally I like to use the dog's name as a "look at me and await instruction" command, not a recall. This helps in many situations, such as when you have multiple dogs in a pack, you can speak to individual dogs by using their name followed by a command and the other dogs understand you aren't talking to them. Or when your dog is far away and you want them to stay at a distance but pay close attention to you.

At one point, the word “come” had become over-used and lost meaning. (Terrier!!!). I was playing hide and go seek one day and placed doggo in a sit/stay command in backyard. Then went to front yard and hid behind shrubs. “Pssst” was the release word and this game was so VERY fun for my Westies that the sound “Pssst” became my new weapon for instant recall. The bonus was that it is also such a polite sound that doesn’t clue in others. It was awesome for camping and visiting because only my dogs were clued in.

Because it is so difficult to get the other people in the household to be really consistent with COME and not using it when they shouldn't, I'm thinking it might be more realistic to use COME as the informal recall and use something like NOW as my formal recall.

I find the value of "come" and what it means so important, as my mini female poodle loves to chase birds, squirrels and even cars. Knowing that I have something that she wants and is motivated by, makes all of the difference. It has been hard work training her as she is very active. Thank you so much for the help.

Thank you for showing a dog that isn’t already perfectly trained. Smooch (did I get his name right?) was hilarious and more representative of the struggles for why we bring our dogs for training in the first place.

While I wish I had found y’all decades ago, I’m so thankful I finally have found your channel now that I’ve got a gsd puppy. You know that saying, “she’s a different breed”? Well she sure is! I’ve had smart dogs, but never gsd smart & tbh, it can be a bit intimidating. I do not want to mess up with her in any way & I’m learning a lot from your content. I only found you in the last 24 hours & I’m marathoning your videos. Thank you for making this public information for us & for caring for us & our furbabies enough to do so. 🥰

I love how you show how a dog might not respond by putting it into a human context 😂

My puppy learned her name while still being with her Siblings
Around 5weekish. Everytime I said her name she came running to me, which was so amazing

That lab pup with Kayl is like, insanely gorgeous. How is it even possible for a puppy to be that cute.

Ive realised that dog training actually works for husbands too, just have to be waayyy more patient. So when he drops wet towels in the floor... don't say anything, don't moan.. but the day he picks them up make a great big fuss of how helpful it was.. same goes for the loo seat.. etc 😂 waited sooner for the dog to do good than the husband 🤣🤣

Thanks. I learned that my 15 week heeler pup on our farm has a great informal recall ("pup pup pup!" And he comes running, ) but his formal "come" is weak.

Your videos have helped my first puppy turn out lovely so far.

Love your videos! My four month old Chihuahua stills not knowing her name.
I will try to teach her that way.
Also have hard time because she is not food motivated, no kibbles, and most of the treats she dislikes completely.
Thank you for helping people to be better dog owners.🤙
